The district administration in Islamabad has decided to bar the entry of vehicles without an M-Tag into the federal capital from January 1, 2026.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon said that action would be taken against vehicles entering the city without the mandatory electronic tag.

He said 16 designated points had been established across Islamabad to facilitate the issuance of M-tags.

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reached Islamabad on Friday on his first official day-long visit to Pakistan.

This is the second time the Emirati president is visiting Pakistan this year, having met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Rahim Yar Khan in January.

However, Friday’s trip is his first official visit as president, according to the Foreign Office.

President Al Nahyan was received by PM Shehbaz at the Nur Khan airbase.

Pakistan’s civil and military leadership highlighted Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s vision of a sovereign, democratic and inclusive nation as the country celebrated his 149th birth anniversary on Thursday.

According to state-broadcaster Radio Pakistan, the day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals.

Special prayers were offered at mosques after Fajr for the Quaid, as well as for the peace, prosperity and development of the country, the Radio Pakistan report said.

A change of guard ceremony was also held at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has received 12 bids for the two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises.

The PCB, in a statement, said it received an "exceptional and encouraging response" to the tender issued for the sale of two new PSL teams as 12 parties formally submitted their bids.

The cricket board shared that investors from the United States of America (USA), Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Pakistan expressed their interest in acquiring the franchises up for sale, depicting the marquee league's global popularity and commercial appeal.

The Arif Habib consortium acquired a majority stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with the highest bid of Rs135 billion in an auction held for the privatisation process of the national flag carrier on Tuesday.

Arif Habib raised its bid from Rs115 billion to Rs135 billion after the Lucky Cement Limited–led consortium increased its earlier bid of Rs101.5 billion to Rs134 billion in the second round of the open bidding.

Arif Habib and Lucky Cement consortia advanced to the open auction stage after placing offers above the reference price of Rs100 billion, while private airliner Airblue exited the bidding after submitting an offer of Rs26.5 billion.

British newspaper Financial Times has described the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as one of the most effective strategic leaders to emerge amid rapid changes in the global order.

"First prize for adjusting to the tempo of Trump’s casual approach to the world has to go to Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir," according to an analysis written by journalist Alec Russell in the FT.

The report notes Field Marshal Munir as a leading example of a successful “multi-aligner”. “He [ Field Marshal] is the very model of a middle power multi-aligner, skipping from Washington to Beijing, Riyadh to Tehran.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a cash reward of Rs 10 million each for the players of Pakistan's victorious Under-19 Asia Cup cricket team.

He announced the cash reward while hosting a luncheon in honour of the young players in Islamabad today.

A special court on Saturday sentenced PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years imprisonment in the Toshakhana-II case.

The verdict was delivered by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand during a hearing held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, where Imran is incarcerated.

According to the judgment, Imran and Bushra were jailed for 10 years each under Section 409 of the PPC and an additional seven years’ imprisonment each under Section 5 of the PCA 1947.
