πŸš€ ERC-20 vs BEP-20 vs Bitcoin Lightning Tokens

Many people enter crypto without realizing the difference between a blockchain and a token.

πŸ”Ή Layer 1 Blockchains (BTC, ETH, BNB)

These are independent networks that provide security, process transactions, and maintain their own infrastructure.

Examples:
β€’ Bitcoin (BTC)
β€’ Ethereum (ETH)
β€’ BNB Chain (BNB)

Think of them as the foundations of the crypto ecosystem.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ”Ή ERC-20 Tokens (Ethereum)

Examples:
β€’ USDT
β€’ USDC
β€’ LINK

These tokens do not have their own blockchain. They use Ethereum's security and smart contract ecosystem.

βœ… Strong security
βœ… Massive DeFi ecosystem
βœ… Smart contract support

❌ Higher transaction fees during network congestion

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ”Ή BEP-20 Tokens (BNB Smart Chain)

Examples:
β€’ CAKE
β€’ BabyDoge

These are similar to ERC-20 tokens but run on BNB Smart Chain.

βœ… Faster transactions
βœ… Lower fees
βœ… Easy token creation

❌ More centralized compared to Ethereum

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ”Ή Tokens on Bitcoin Lightning Network

Examples:
β€’ Taproot Assets
β€’ RGB Assets

These assets leverage Bitcoin and the Lightning Network for ultra-fast transactions.

βœ… Near-instant payments
βœ… Extremely low fees
βœ… Built on Bitcoin's security

❌ Smaller ecosystem
❌ Still in early development

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ’‘ The Simplest Analogy

Blockchains (BTC, ETH, BNB) = Operating Systems

ERC-20 & BEP-20 Tokens = Applications running on those operating systems

Lightning Assets = Payment-optimized applications running on Bitcoin's payment rails

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ“ˆ My Take

The long-term value of Layer 1 blockchains comes from providing security, decentralization, and settlement for the entire ecosystem.

Tokens can become extremely valuable, but they ultimately rely on the underlying blockchain infrastructure.

Without the roads, the cars cannot move.

Without the blockchain, the tokens cannot exist.

What do you think will dominate the next decade of crypto?

βš–οΈ BINANCE vs REDOTPAY: LEGAL FIGHT ESCALATES

Binance and crypto payment platform RedotPay are giving conflicting accounts over a legal dispute in Singapore.

πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ RedotPay says the Singapore proceedings are expected to be discontinued following an August 7 hearing and that it expects to recover its legal costs.

⚠️ Binance says it has NOT withdrawn its claims and has informed the court and RedotPay that its claims remain active.

The dispute is part of a wider legal battle involving Binance-related companies and RedotPay, with a separate Hong Kong claim reportedly involving around $472.8 million.

πŸ’³ What is RedotPay?

RedotPay is a crypto payment platform focused heavily on stablecoins. It allows users to use crypto/stablecoins for everyday payments through virtual and physical cards, as well as offering wallet, transfers and other payment services.

With RedotPay positioning stablecoins as a payment tool, the dispute could have wider implications for the growing competition between crypto exchanges and stablecoin payment platforms.

πŸ”Ž Bottom line:
This is NOT a confirmed case of Binance β€œdropping” the lawsuit. RedotPay and Binance currently have different interpretations of the status of the Singapore proceedings.

πŸš€ **How Do Stablecoins Like USDT Actually Work? And How Are They Different from the US Dollar?** πŸ’΅πŸ”—

Many people think **USDT is just another digital dollar**, but there's much more happening behind the scenes.

βœ… **Traditional US Dollar (Fiat)**

* Issued by a central bank and managed through commercial banks.
* Transactions rely on private banking databases.
* International transfers can take hours or even days.

βœ… **USDT & Fiat-Backed Stablecoins**

* Issued by a private company.
* Every new token is minted when reserves are deposited and burned when redeemed.
* Transactions are recorded on public blockchains like **Ethereum, Tron, and Solana**.
* Fast, transparent, and available 24/7.

πŸ”Ή **How is a Stablecoin Built on Ethereum?**
A stablecoin is typically deployed as an **ERC-20 smart contract** with functions to:
βœ”οΈ Mint new tokens
βœ”οΈ Burn redeemed tokens
βœ”οΈ Transfer between wallets
βœ”οΈ Verify balances
βœ”οΈ Integrate with DeFi applications

The blockchain acts as the public ledger, while real-world reserves help maintain the token's value.

πŸ€– **What Are Algorithmic Stablecoins?**
Unlike USDT or USDC, algorithmic stablecoins don't depend on holding $1 in a bank for every token.

Instead, smart contracts automatically adjust the token supply:
πŸ“ˆ If the price rises above $1, new tokens may be created.
πŸ“‰ If the price falls below $1, the protocol tries to reduce supply through programmed incentives.

This approach aims to maintain the peg without centralized reserves, but it also carries higher risks if confidence in the system breaks down.

# # # Fiat-Backed vs. Algorithmic Stablecoins

πŸ’΅ **Fiat-Backed**
βœ… Backed by real reserves
βœ… Stronger price stability
βœ… Trusted by institutions
❌ More centralized

βš™οΈ **Algorithmic**
βœ… More decentralized
βœ… Powered by smart contracts
βœ… Innovative monetary design
❌ Higher risk of losing the peg during market stress

🌍 **The Bigger Picture**

Stablecoins are bridging the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology. Whether backed by real-world reserves or governed by algorithms, they represent one of the most important innovations in digital payments, cross-border transfers, and decentralized finance.

**Most people discuss crypto prices, but very few understand the Computer Science behind the technology that created it.**

# Blockchain Technology: Is It Computer Science or Computer Systems Engineering?

Many people associate blockchain only with cryptocurrencies, but from an academic perspective, blockchain is much more than digital money. It is a technology built upon decades of research in Computer Science, mathematics, cryptography, and distributed computing.

# # πŸ–₯️ Blockchain is primarily rooted in Computer Science

The foundation of blockchain comes from several major areas of Computer Science:

βœ… **Cryptography** β€” Hash functions, digital signatures, and security mechanisms
βœ… **Data Structures** β€” Blocks, linked structures, and Merkle Trees
βœ… **Algorithms** β€” Consensus mechanisms such as Proof of Work and Proof of Stake
βœ… **Distributed Systems** β€” Decentralized networks and fault tolerance
βœ… **Peer-to-Peer Networking** β€” Communication between independent nodes
βœ… **Database Concepts** β€” Data integrity and immutability
βœ… **Software Engineering** β€” Building secure and scalable applications

These concepts allow blockchain networks to provide transparency, security, and trust without relying on a single central authority.

# # βš™οΈ Where does Computer Systems Engineering fit?

Computer Systems Engineering focuses on designing and integrating hardware with software to build complete computing systems.

It contributes to areas such as:

πŸ”Ή Computer Architecture
πŸ”Ή Digital Electronics
πŸ”Ή Embedded Systems
πŸ”Ή Hardware-Software Integration
πŸ”Ή FPGA and ASIC Design
πŸ”Ή Computing Infrastructure

In the blockchain ecosystem, Computer Systems Engineering supports the physical layer behind the technology, such as mining hardware, secure hardware devices, and efficient computing systems.

# # 🧠 A simple comparison

**Computer Science asks:**

*"How should blockchain technology work?"*

It focuses on:

* Blockchain protocols
* Consensus algorithms
* Cryptographic security
* Smart contracts
* Decentralized applications

**Computer Systems Engineering asks:**

*"How can we build efficient systems to run this technology?"*

It focuses on:

* Mining hardware
* Secure computing devices
* Hardware optimization
* Infrastructure development

# # πŸŽ“ My Academic and Professional Perspective

I studied **Computer Science** through a four-year **Bachelor of Science (BS)** program, where I studied many of these fundamental subjects, including algorithms, data structures, databases, networking, software engineering, and computing systems.

For the past **four years, I have been involved in blockchain technology, specifically cryptocurrencies**, which has allowed me to explore how computer science principles are applied to modern financial systems.

From my understanding, cryptocurrencies represent a new form of digital assets and, in some cases, programmable money. Their foundation is not only based on market speculation but also on cryptographic algorithms, consensus mechanisms, decentralization, transparency, and economic incentives.

# # πŸ“Š The Financial Side of Crypto

Understanding blockchain technology alone is not enough to understand crypto markets.

Cryptocurrency markets introduce concepts from financial and trading education, including:

πŸ“ˆ Candlestick analysis (green and red candles)
πŸ“Š RSI (Relative Strength Index)
πŸ“ Fibonacci levels
πŸ“‰ Other technical indicators and market analysis methods

These tools help analyze market behavior and investor psychology, but they are not guaranteed prediction systems.

# # πŸš€ Why Both Perspectives Matter

In my opinion, to properly evaluate the long-term potential of cryptoβ€”especially Bitcoin (BTC)β€”we need knowledge from both sides:

🧠 **Computer Science**
Understanding the technology, security, algorithms, and innovation.

πŸ“ˆ **Financial Education**
Understanding markets, economics, psychology, and adoption.

Learning only one side can create an incomplete picture. Technical knowledge without market understanding may ignore economic realities, while trading knowledge without technical understanding may ignore the fundamentals behind the asset.

# # 🌐 Blockchain Is an Interdisciplinary Technology

Blockchain is not only Computer Science and it is not only finance.

It combines:

πŸ”Ή Computer Science
πŸ”Ή Cryptography
πŸ”Ή Mathematics
πŸ”Ή Economics
πŸ”Ή Game Theory
πŸ”Ή Human Psychology

Bitcoin (BTC) is a unique example where these fields combine to create a decentralized monetary network secured by cryptography, distributed consensus, and economic incentives.

The goal should not be to blindly support or reject crypto, but to develop enough knowledge to analyze it objectively.

**Understanding the technology + Understanding the financial system = A better perspective on the future of crypto.**

Thank you.

⚑ BREAKING: BTCPay Server Restricts Remote Lightning Access After LND Exploit

A serious security incident has hit the Bitcoin Lightning ecosystem.

BTCPay Server temporarily restricted certain forms of remote access to Lightning nodes after attackers exploited a critical vulnerability affecting deployments using LND (Lightning Network Daemon).

πŸ”΄ What is BTCPay Server?

BTCPay Server is a free, open-source Bitcoin payment processor. Businesses and individuals can run their own BTCPay Server to accept Bitcoin payments without relying on a centralized payment processor.

It supports both Bitcoin on-chain payments and Lightning Network payments, making it popular among merchants, developers and Bitcoin-focused businesses.

⚠️ What happened?

A vulnerability in affected BTCPay Server/LND configurations could expose sensitive LND authentication credentials known as macaroons.

Attackers who obtained these credentials could gain control over an affected Lightning node and potentially move its funds.

And this wasn't just a theoretical vulnerability.

πŸ’° Funds were reportedly stolen from affected Lightning nodes, including nodes operated by organizations in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

BTCPay responded by restricting remote Lightning access in affected configurations and released BTCPay Server 2.4.2, which includes security fixes and an updated LND version.

🚨 Important: Bitcoin itself was NOT hacked.

The incident was related to the implementation and configuration of BTCPay Server/LND infrastructure, not a vulnerability in the Bitcoin blockchain or the Lightning Network protocol itself.

This incident highlights an important principle of self-custody:

πŸ” Running your own infrastructure gives you control β€” but it also gives you responsibility for securing that infrastructure.

If you operate a BTCPay Server with LND, update to the latest version and follow BTCPay's official security advisory immediately.

Bitcoin's underlying protocol remains unaffected, but this incident is another reminder that the security of the applications built around Bitcoin matters just as much as the protocol itself.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ UK MOVES TO BRING BLOCKCHAIN INTO FINANCIAL MARKETS ⚑️

The UK is taking another major step toward blockchain adoption.

Regulators are encouraging financial companies to explore blockchain and distributed-ledger technology (DLT) across financial markets β€” with the potential to make transactions faster, more efficient, transparent and secure. πŸ”—πŸ¦

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is supporting innovation involving tokenised assets, blockchain-based infrastructure and on-chain settlement.

This could eventually transform how assets such as securities, funds and other financial instruments are issued, traded and settled.

πŸš€ Blockchain is increasingly moving beyond crypto β€” and into the infrastructure of traditional finance.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ The UK wants to be at the forefront of that transition.
