Today is World Democracy Day. Just few days ago, the UN General Assembly voted for Palestinian statehood, laid bare the contradictions of our global order. Out of 164 nations, an overwhelming 142 stood with justice and freedom, affirming the right of Palestinians to an independent state. Yet just 10 countries — the self-proclaimed champions of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law — opposed the resolution, while 12 abstained. The global voice is clear, but the resistance of a powerful few exposes a crisis of credibility.
Democracy cannot be selective. It cannot be championed in words but denied in action. By rejecting Palestine’s statehood, these nations reveal double standards that weaken the very principles they claim to uphold. On this World Democracy Day, we are reminded that true democracy must transcend politics and power; it must stand firmly with the oppressed, not with oppression.

I had the opportunity to visit for two weeks last year, and it left a lasting impression with its vibrant academic environment and state-of-the-art facilities. Emphasis was placed on promoting sports activities in Jammu & Kashmir, including cricket, football, and winter sports, as platforms to engage youth and strengthen cultural ties.
