ISLAMABAD – Imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan has requested a personal appearance and live streaming of the Supreme Court proceedings regarding his petition to overturn amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) introduced by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government.

Last week, Khan appeared before the Supreme Court via video link but did not get a chance to speak. His counsel informed the media on Wednesday that Khan submitted this request through Adiala jail authorities.

Speaking to reporters after the £190 million corruption reference hearing, Khan said, “I have a match on May 30 in the Supreme Court.” He highlighted that he was convicted three times before the February 8 elections, yet the PTI received significant public support despite negative propaganda.

He claimed the PTI won the Islamabad elections by a substantial margin and criticized election tribunals for not delivering verdicts, despite it being over three months since the general election.

Khan condemned the Punjab government’s new defamation law as an effort to suppress media freedom and restrict the press.

The first match of the four-match T20 series between Pakistan and England has been canceled due to rain. Scheduled to take place at Headingley, the match was called off without a toss being held.

According to sources, the weather forecast had predicted a 75% chance of rain the day before the match, with 5.3% rainfall expected in the area. True to the forecast, heavy rain on the day of the match made it impossible for play to commence.

The remaining three matches of the series will proceed as scheduled. The second T20 match will be played on May 25 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, followed by the third match on May 28 in Cardiff, and the final match on May 30 at The Oval, London.

PTI leader Parvez Elahi was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail on Tuesday night after the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted him bail in a case related to an alleged illegal appointment made during his tenure as the chief minister of Punjab.

LHC Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmed accepted Elahi’s bail petition earlier in the day and ordered his release. According to the court order, further investigation into Elahi's guilt was required, and thus, his bail was granted with the condition of posting Rs500,000 bail and two sureties of the same amount.

Elahi’s lawyer Amir Saeed Rawn said the PTI leader had reached the Zahoor Elahi Palace.

Elahi had been moved to Kot Lakhpat Jail earlier this month.

In a message on his official X account, Elahi expressed gratitude to God for his exoneration and the strength to remain steadfast. He thanked the judges who supported the truth and facilitated his release, as well as those who prayed for and supported him during the difficult time. He lamented the suffering and abuse endured by the people of Gujarat and alleged that their mandate was stolen.

Elahi also ruled out any talks with his cousin, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Chaudhry Shujaat, and his children until "the return of our mandate."

He accused Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi of playing a significant role in his arrest and affirmed his unwavering support for Imran Khan, stating, "I was, am, and will remain with Imran Khan."

TEHRAN – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi declared dead on Monday morning as his helicopter crashed after a tough landing during a visit to the country’s northwest.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and East Azarbaijan Province’s Governor Malek Rahmati were also on board the crashed aircraft. Presidet Raisi was on his way to Tabriz City after inaugurating a dam at the border with the Azerbaijan.

Earlier, a massive search operation was conducted, Iran's Red Crescent, Pir Hossein Kolivand, told media, saying the situation looks somber.

Initial reports claimed rescuers spotted the crashed chopper from distance of 1.25 miles in East Azerbaijan province on Monday morning.

Along with Raisi, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was also in convoy when the wreckage was located. An anonymous official had previously stated that their lives were at risk following the crash, which occurred as they were returning from a visit to the border with Azerbaijan in Iran's northwest.

Iran's media reported that Turkish drone identified a source, suspected to be the helicopter's wreckage, and shared the coordinates with authorities in Tehran.

Amid the shocking situation, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reassured the nation that there would be no disruption to state affairs.

As per the initial reports, the crash occurred due to bad weather, which was complicating rescue efforts. Tehran directed all available resources, including forces and the elite Revolutionary Guards, to be utilised in search and rescue operations.

Clips shared online shows rescue teams searching a dark, blizzard-hit mountainside with a GPS device.

Pakistan, Azerbaijan and neighboring nations expressed concern and offered assistance.

US President Joe Biden was also briefed on crash while Turkey assigned a drone, a helicopter, vehicles, and a rescue team after a request from Iranian authorities.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, for allegedly possessing and selling valuable gifts from the Toshakhana without proper legal procedures. The case involves high-value watches and jewelry, including Graff and Rolex brands. One critical aspect is the alleged undervaluation of a Graff watch by an appraiser, leading to its sale at a fraction of its actual worth. This investigation follows a previous Toshakhana case where Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced but later had their sentences suspended. NAB aims to uncover any financial misconduct and determine the legality of the transactions, which could impact the political landscape in Pakistan and the legal standing of the individuals involved.
