Ensuring Freedom of Press and Responsibility

The Press Council of Pakistan is an autonomous and independent apex body which issue and monitor good standards of media practice. The main ambits of the Council are:

(i) To receive complaints about the violation of Ethical Code of Practice relating to newspapers, news agencies, editors and journalists. (ii) To revise, update, enforce and implement the Ethical Code of Practice for the newspapers, news agencies, editors, journalists and publishers as laid down in the Schedule to this Ordinance.

Chairman Press Council of Pakistan, Mr. Arshad Khan Jadoon, presented a bouquet to the newly appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil, during a courtesy meeting. The Chairman extended his best wishes and expressed hope for continued cooperation in strengthening ethical journalism and promoting responsible media practices in Pakistan.

Chairman Press Council of Pakistan, M. Arshad Khan Jadoon, held a productive meeting with Justice (R) Arshad Hussain Shah (Former Chief Judge of the Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan , Caretaker CM KPK, and Chairman Head Judicial Policy). He congratulated him on assuming charge as Chairman of Pakistan’s Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (COIED).

Chairman P*P, Mr. M. Arshad Khan Jadoon, paid a visit to Mr. Thomas Dahl, Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy. During the meeting, Chairman presented commemorative shield and the introductory book of the Press Council of Pakistan.The Chairman highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration between the Press Council of Pakistan and Norwegian media institutions. He emphasized that such cooperation could play a pivotal role in strengthening journalistic standards, promoting cultural exchange, and encouraging the adoption of best practices in media regulation and ethics.Both sides expressed mutual interest in exploring opportunities for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and potential joint initiatives to support responsible journalism and freedom of expression.
