Pakistan has received successful bids for offshore oil and gas exploration for the first time in 20 years, according to the Petroleum Division. In the initial phase, an investment of around USD 80 million is expected, with total investment potentially rising to USD 1 billion during the drilling stage. Exploration will take place across 23 offshore blocks in the Indus and Makran basins.

Several international and national companies will participate in the joint venture, including Türkiye Petroleum, United Energy, Orient Petroleum, Fatima Petroleum, OGDC, PPL, Mari Petroleum, and Prime Energy. Officials say the development reflects growing investor confidence in Pakistan’s upstream energy sector and is aligned with the government’s broader strategy to enhance energy security and utilize domestic reserves.

Pakistani security forces captured 20 Afghan border posts after repelling unprovoked cross-border attacks by the Afghan Taliban, state media reported on Sunday.

According to PTV News, several Taliban fighters were killed or fled, while the Pakistan Army destroyed key Taliban positions, including Manojba Camp, Jandusar Post, and Kharchar Fort.

Security sources said the attacks aimed to facilitate infiltration by Khawarij militants, but Pakistani troops responded swiftly and decisively.

President Asif Ali Zardari cited UN reports confirming that recent terrorist strikes were launched from Afghan soil and urged Kabul to take verifiable action against India-backed militants.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the provocation and asserted that Pakistan would make “no compromise on national defence.”
