Durrani > Zirak > Bazakzai > Mohammadzai
Albeit with a territory shrinking to the size of the present day Afghanistan, the Barakzai Durranis were still able to rule for 149 years.
The Barakzai Dynasty saw invasions, both from East and West. Persians reclaiming their territory of Mashad.
British Empire preoccupied with stretching westwards from Indus, first took the territory they named NWFP by aiding the Sikhs under Ranjit Singh.
By 1849 with the Sikh Empire crumbled, British came into direct rule of Punjab, the NWFP and had now their eyes set upon the territory they would later call FATA. In a total of 3 Anglo Afghan wars, the British slowly chucked away the territory of FATA and Northern Baluchistan ( Chief Commissioner's Province ) to give Afghanistan it's present day shape.
In 1973 the last Durrani Barakzai Monarch King Zahir Shah abdicated the throne and transferred power to the President, to make way for the Republic of Afghanistan.
Sardar Daud Khan Barakzai (Durrani) was King Zahir Shah's cousin who became the First President of Afghanistan in 1973.
After American invasion of Afghanistan, the man brought in to bring all Afghans together was another Durrani, a Popalzai Hamid Karzai.
The Durranis in total have ruled Afghanistan for over 225 Years.
1747-1973
These figures do not show Durrani heartlands of Kandahar, Helmand and Herat where the Durranis especially Popalzais (Saddozai) have always fared particularly well as Governors.
Eg Ahmad Shah Abdali's father was the Governor of Herat.
Saddo Khan the patriarch of the Saddozai clan was the Governor of Kandahar during Abbas I of Persia and Jehangir I.
