Villagers and Buddhist monks in Hiriketiya, a popular coastal destination in southern Sri Lanka, held a protest on August 14, demanding the removal of a recently established Chabad House.

The center, which reportedly opened a few weeks ago, provides kosher food, Shabbat meals, and community services mainly for Israeli and Jewish visitors. Some local residents claim it was established without the required approvals and has created tensions within the community.

Some residents have also raised allegations concerning unlicensed businesses, employment practices, and treatment of local people by certain Israeli visitors.
