KARACHI: I feel no excitement whatsoever, said Abdul Waheed, once a viral meme due to his peculiar expressions after he qualified an audition of ARY’s Living On The Edge show. “Even then I was not excited like other people, It was meant to happen so it happened.”

Now collecting charged-parking tickets at a Sharea Faisal office building, from morning till evening, Waheed says he is content with what he has got. “This job will not make me a bungalow, but it does help me get by day to day.”

With no family, the sixty-year-old spends his days disciplining and rearranging hundreds of bikes everyday and goes home with what he earns.

He stresses that sympathies and pity are not the things he’s looking for, as he is satisfied with what’s he earns.

“What’s meant to be, will be, so I never really feel excitement for anything ever” he says of the times when he auditioned for famous Living On The Edge and his expression, lacking standard excitement, went viral.

“Life is a set of different stages, and this now is again just another stage of life where I’m a wage worker while for people, I’m a laughing stock.”
After taking his consent and explaining to him that this interview might as well go viral, but is not meant to disrespect or humiliate him in any way whatsoever, or to make him a staple for meme consumers, Waheed spoke to ARY Stories about his struggles.

KARACHI: The foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) declined $584 million to $6.11 billion in a week, according to data released by the central bank Thursday.

In a statement, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said the total liquid foreign reserves witnessed a reduction of $570 million. The overall reserves were reduced from $12.57 billion to $12 billion.

Net foreign reserves held by commercial banks increased to over $5.88 billion after an increase of $13 million.

Last week, the SBP’s foreign exchange reserves had fallen $15 million to $6.7 billion, indicating an urgent need for the resumption of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

In another development today, following Moody and Fitch’s move, Global ratings agency S&P Global cut Pakistan’s long-term sovereign credit rating by one notch to “CCC+” from “B” to reflect a continued weakening of the country’s external, fiscal and economic metrics.
The S&P Global, in a statement, said Pakistan’s already low foreign exchange reserves will remain under pressure through 2023 unless oil prices slump or foreign assistance improves.

The country also faces elevated political risks which may affect its policy trajectory over the next year.

This year’s severe floods, surging food and energy inflation as well as rising global interest rates are also expected to depress Pakistan’s economic and fiscal outcomes, with refinancing challenges over the medium term, the report said.

The agency maintained its outlook at “stable”.

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Sibtain Khan has asserted that the voting on no-confidence motion submitted against Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi would be held in first week of January, ARY News reported.

Speaking on ARY News programme ‘Off the Record’, the Punjab Assembly Speaker noted that voting on no-confidence motion may be held on 3rd or 4th January, adding that the assembly can be dissolved amid the directives of seeking vote of confidence.

In response to a question, Sibtain Khan said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) knows Governor cannot de-notify the Chief Minister in accordance to the Constitution. “If we had not found out this weakness, the Governor would have de-notified the CM,” he added.

Sibtain Khan claimed Governor Baligh ur Rehman – in his letter – admitted that the Speaker can prorogue the current session summoned by him. “Punjab Governor first asked CM Pervaiz Elahi to seek vote of no confidence,” he said, noting that he did not de-notify the CM because there was no legal status.

“A procedure has also been decided for Chief Minister to take the vote of confidence”, he said, adding that as per law, time is provided for a vote of confidence in which the Chief Minister does his homework.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stopped Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman from denotifying Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.

The development comes after the legal team of PML-N advised the party to refrain from denotifying CM Elahi as the matter can be challenged in court.

The legal team presented a suggestion during a meeting held at the Governor House. The meeting was attended by the senior leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

On the legal team’s recommendation, the prime minister has stopped Punjab governor from denotifying CM Elahi for now and ordered more consultation on the matter.

Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) submitted no-trust motion against Punjab chief minister, speaker and deputy speaker to the provincial assembly’s secretariat.

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to hold a public gathering outside Punjab Governor House tomorrow (Thursday), which would be addressed by former premier and party chairman Imran Khan, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists in Lahore, former federal minister and PTI leader Hammad Azhar said that the party has decided to hold a public gathering outside Punjab Governor House tomorrow (Thursday), wherein Imran Khan will announce a new plan of action.

He also levelled allegations against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari of ‘horse trading’, saying that PTI Members of Punjab Assembly (MPAs) were getting telephone calls and Zardari’s money was being used for games in Punjab.

However, he said, the public would not stay quiet this time. “The people will not become silent spectators this time,” he said, adding that his party decided to thwart any move that the Pakistan Democratic Movement throws its way.

The PTI leader further said that Imran Khan will address the public gathering outside the Governor House at 5pm and announce the way forward.

At the outset of the media talk, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry lambasted the ruling coalition of ‘running away’ from the elections. “Governor Baligh ur Rehman has violated Article 109 of Constitution”, he added.

He noted that 10 members of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid have expressed confidence in Pervaiz Elahi, adding that the Punjab Chief Minister (CM) has support of almost 187 members of provincial assembly.

Fawad claimed that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had offered money to PTI’s women lawmakers. “Sindh’s money is being used for horse trading in Punjab,” he said, hoping that a notice would be taken on the issue.

He also added that Punjab government should ban Asif Zardari from entering the province, vowing that no-confidence motion against Pervaiz Elahi would fail.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that it was reported that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) started consultation over governor rule in Punjab.
