🚨 BIG NEWS in Dental Research!
Prof. Dr. Jill M. Kramer, DDS, PhD, from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, has secured a $2.1 MILLION NIH grant to dig deep into the immune system’s role in Sjögren’s disease — a painful autoimmune disorder that affects over 4 million Americans, mostly women. 💧🇺🇸

🔬 Her focus? A tiny but powerful molecule called MyD88 that triggers inflammation. By studying how specific immune “sensors” (TLR7 & TLR9) activate MyD88, Dr. Kramer hopes to pave the way for targeted therapies that protect patients’ salivary glands and improve their quality of life.

💡 Why it matters:

No current FDA-approved drugs can stop or reverse the damage caused by Sjögren’s.

Her team’s research could also benefit lupus and rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Findings may lead to personalized treatments — tailored to a patient’s unique biology.

🔥 This breakthrough puts UB at the forefront of autoimmune disease research — offering hope for millions waiting for better treatments.

🦷 United for the future of dental education!
The alumni of de’Montmorency College of Dentistry (DCD) came together under the leadership of Prof. Nazia Yazdani, former principal and proud alumnus, to protect the college’s separate identity and push for its upgrade as Pakistan’s first public University of Dental Sciences.

👩‍⚕️ Distinguished attendees included Prof. Asif Ali Shah, Prof. Ayyaz Khan, former MS Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, former MS Dr. Abdul Sattar, Dr. Amber Farid (Ajman University, UAE), and the PDA Lahore team — Dr. Tahir Mahmood and Dr. Asifa Iqbal.

📚 The meeting focused on preserving DCD’s rich heritage, advancing research facilities, and aligning education with global dental standards — opening doors to advanced research, public oral health programs, and international collaborations.

💬 Prof. Nazia Yazdani emphasized that strong alumni advocacy and stakeholder engagement are vital to achieving university status, ensuring DCD remains a beacon of dental excellence in Pakistan.

🤝 The gathering ended with a unanimous pledge to work with policymakers, professional bodies, and the government to make this vision a reality.

📢 Big news for global dentistry! The American Dental Association (ADA) and Penn Dental Medicine have launched the world’s first living guideline program dedicated to oral health.

🦷 This groundbreaking initiative will deliver continuously updated, evidence-based recommendations to help dentists, healthcare providers, and patients make better, faster decisions — improving care and advancing public health worldwide.

🌐 Why it matters: Oral diseases affect nearly half of the world’s population, and cases are growing faster than population rates. This program ensures the latest science is integrated into practice in real time, instead of the usual 3–5 year wait for guideline updates.

💡 First focus: Updating the 2017 ADA oral cancer guidelines for evaluating potentially malignant disorders and oral squamous cell carcinoma. The first recommendations will be published later this year in The Journal of the American Dental Association and on ADA.org.

🤖 How it works: Powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and expert review, the program rapidly incorporates new biomedical research into care guidelines — keeping the profession ahead of the curve.

💬 “We’re proud to bring this important service to our profession and improve the oral health of millions,” says Mark S. Wolff, Dean at Penn Dental Medicine.

🚀 With faster updates, AI-driven evidence review, and a focus on global health, this is a game-changer for dentistry and patient care.

✨ A game-changing oral health boost!
A new supervised toothbrushing programme is being rolled out in nurseries and primary schools across England’s most deprived areas — aiming to protect 600,000 children from tooth decay every year.

💡 Targeting children aged 3 to 5, this £11 million government-backed scheme will help little ones build healthy brushing habits early in life.

🪥 More than 23 million toothbrushes & toothpastes will be donated over the next five years, ensuring good habits continue at home too.

📊 Why it matters:
Tooth decay is the leading cause of hospital admissions for children aged 5–9 in England. In deprived areas, 1 in 3 children are affected — but supervised brushing is proven to cut these rates and reduce health inequalities.

💧 The plan also includes expanding water fluoridation in the north east, expected to reach 1.6 million more people and help prevent dental disease.

💬 Experts say every £1 invested in supervised brushing saves £3 in treatment costs, while giving children a healthier, more confident start in life.

San Francisco-based startup Trust AI has raised $6 million in seed funding — the largest ever in the dental technology sector. 🦷💰

💻 Designed to simplify life for dental professionals, Trust AI brings clinical and administrative workflows into one secure, HIPAA-compliant portal — ending the chaos of juggling multiple apps and logins.

🗣 Co-founder Dr. Bernard Casse says:

“Practices using Trust AI are already operating in 2030 while competitors are stuck in 1995.”

🌍 Since launching, Trust AI has attracted 3,000+ dentists in just weeks, proving the huge demand for AI-driven dental solutions. With fresh funding, the company will expand globally and build smarter tools to support dentists in real time.

✨ One platform. One secure portal. One intelligent conversation.

♻️ 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀

🦷💡 What if your dental implant could last longer and help the planet?

Researchers from SUNY Polytechnic Institute, University of Ghana, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute have found a groundbreaking way to make titanium dental implants stronger—using bovine bone 🐄 and eggshells 🥚 that would otherwise go to waste!

Their innovative process creates nanostructured hydroxyapatite coatings—a bone-like material that helps implants bond better with your jaw and resist wear over time. Early lab tests show improved strength, lower wear rates, and better bone integration compared to uncoated implants.

🌍 The best part? This sustainable approach transforms everyday biowaste into high-value medical technology, supporting a circular economy while advancing patient care.

⚠️ It’s not in clinics yet—next steps include animal testing, safety validation, and clinical trials. But if successful, this could mean fewer implant failures, faster healing, and reduced long-term costs for patients.

♻️ From farm waste to future smiles—science is making it happen!

🚨 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻 𝗩𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱𝘀

🚭💀 A new va**ng danger is here — and it’s deadly.
Australian police have seized v**e liquids laced with nitazenes, a powerful synthetic opioid up to stronger than fentanyl.

🧪 Originally developed in the 1950s for pain relief but never approved, nitazenes have now been found in counterfeit meds, street drugs — and shockingly, in v**es.

⚠️ Why it’s so dangerous:
Even tiny amounts can cause respiratory depression — slowing or stopping your breathing within minutes. Overdose signs include:
🔹 Pinpoint pupils
🔹 Slow or shallow breathing
🔹 Extreme drowsiness or unconsciousness
🔹 Blue or grey skin

💨 The va**ng risk:
Inhaling nitazenes can cause faster, stronger effects than pills — making overdoses harder to reverse in time.

💊 The antidote:
Naloxone can save lives, but multiple doses may be needed because nitazenes stay in the body longer. In NSW, it’s available free at pharmacies, NGOs, and health programs.

🗣 Expert warning:
“If you are not expecting an opioid, you are not prepared for an opioid overdose,” says Prof. Mark Connor of Macquarie Medical School.

💡 Health tip:
Dental and healthcare professionals are urging the public to know the signs, carry naloxone if around opioid users, and stay informed.
