An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in another May 9 violence case, while sentencing senior party leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid and Mehmoodur Rasheed to 10 years in prison each, Aaj News reported

The verdict was announced by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul at Kot Lakhpat Jail in connection with a case pertaining to the burning of a government vehicle near Jinnah House during the May 9 riots.

Apple on Tuesday showed off a new, slimmer iPhone “Air” model with a “high density battery” and a brand new processor, as well as an iPhone 17, the latest upgrade to its flagship smartphone. The iPhone Air model is the star of the annual product launch event, and Apple said the model is its most durable iPhone yet.

Apple said the base model iPhone 17 will have a brighter, more scratch-resistant screen. It also said the device will feature a new A19 processor chip, which will be made with 3-nanometer chipmaking technology and have improved capabilities for on-device artificial intelligence features.

A United States delegation on Tuesday was briefed on Pakistan’s port infrastructure and investment opportunities during a meeting with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.

Federal Secretary Syed Zafar Ali Shah informed the delegation that Karachi Port, which handles 54 percent of the country’s trade, has an annual capacity of 125 million tons, the ministry said in a statement.

Buying rally continued at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) as strong corporate results boosted confidence and attracted robust investor participation, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index settling at a new high on Tuesday.

Buying momentum persisted through most of the trading session, pushing the index to an intra-day high of 157,088.80.

At close, the benchmark index settled at 156,563.52, an increase of 476.22 points or 0.31%.

Pakistan authorities are allegedly spying on millions of the citizens using a phone-tapping system and an internet firewall that censors social media, Amnesty International claimed in a report.

The rights watchdog alleged in the report released on Tuesday that Pakistan’s growing monitoring network was built using both Chinese and Western technology and powered a sweeping crackdown on dissent and free speech.
