The water of the Indus River is a red line for Pakistan especially for the province of Sindh whose lifeline is directly tied to the river’s flow. The Pakistan Peoples Party has consistently upheld the constitutional and moral right of Sindh to its due share of water. From the very beginning PPP has stood firm against any attempts to deprive Sindh of its fair allocation under the 1991 Water Accord. The party views any violation of this agreement as a direct attack on the province’s agriculture, economy and the livelihood of its people.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other PPP leaders have repeatedly raised the issue in the National Assembly, Senate and public forums emphasizing that water justice is non-negotiable. The PPP has also resisted any attempts to construct controversial dams or canals without national consensus warning that such actions could deepen inter provincial tensions and damage national unity.
The PPP’s commitment goes beyond statements it has led protests, filed petitions and demanded transparency in water distribution through telemetry systems. For the PPP the Indus River is not just a water source it is the backbone of Sindh’s civilization. Ensuring its fair flow remains central to the party’s political mission and struggle.
