YouTube begins new wave of slowdowns for users with ad blockers enabled
YouTube recently started slowing down its entire site whenever ad blockers are used. A new wave of slowdowns is hitting users, with the only resolutions being disabling the ad blocker or upgrading to premium.

To combat the increasing frequency of ads on YouTube, people have employed the use of ad blockers for years. According to YouTube, that method of avoiding ads is deemed a violation of the terms of service. Of course, pre-video ads are a huge source of income for the service, and the only way to avoid them without the use of a third-party application is to pay YouTube directly for premium.

YouTube has since started discouraging the use of ad blockers in a couple of ways. The first is with a pop-up message that reads, “Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Term of Service.” The message then suggests you turn off your ad blocker. The user is not allowed to continue watching without doing so.

The second method is one that’s now starting to roll out to more users. YouTube has recently started slowing the entire site when an ad blocker is being used, referring to it as “suboptimal viewing.”

According to a post on Reddit, multiple users have noted that YouTube has become laggy and unresponsive, seemingly all of a sudden. It was quickly discovered that disabling whichever ad blocker is being used immediately revitalizes the site.

The U.S. government and regulators do not have the backbone to control these quasi-monopolies. Too much money being poured by companies such as these into the pockets of politicians.

We tested this theory ourselves, and sure enough, YouTube looks sickly whenever an ad blocker is enabled. Videos buffer incredibly slow, previews refuse to load properly, and entering theater mode or fullscreen is impossible without refreshing the website.

This is mostly due to an artificial timeout written within YouTube’s code to act as a laggy internet connection. While this action taken by YouTube isn’t brand-new, more users are starting to see the tactic in use.

If you’re experiencing this issue, you have two official options that have already been covered: disable the ad blocker or upgrade to YouTube Premium.

For most users, neither option is ideal, and YouTube’s methods of dissuading users from using ad blockers are controversial. It forces viewers to choose between paying $10/month or sitting through what can sometimes be up to 10 minutes of unskippable video ad

MathGPT has surpassed Microsoft's "ToRA 13B", model previously ranked #1 in benchmarks assessing mathematical aptitude
The makers of QANDA, the largest AI-driven learning platform in Asia, Mathpresso, have revealed that their huge language model, MathGPT, has beaten OpenAI and Microsoft models to set a new world record in maths.

It is believed that MathGPT has surpassed Microsoft's "ToRA 13B", the model that held the previous record, to be ranked #1 in benchmarks that assess mathematical aptitude, such as 'MATH' (12,500 challenging math questions) and "GSM8K" (8,500 elementary school arithmetic problems) according to Interesting Engineering.

In the MATH benchmark, OpenAI's GPT-4 was outperformed by MathGPT.

As part of a strategic cooperation with KT, Qanda and Upstage started developing MathGPT together in November of last year. Learning data from 10 million searches each day, including learning level, context, and interaction, were made available to Upstage by Qanda.

KT also gave Mathpresso a $8 million investment in September of last year to help with LLM growth.

Upstage refined the natural language-based language model to allow logical inference and trained this on its own specialised solution to prevent hallucinations.

Unlike domain-specific learning data, like expert knowledge, ChatGPT is trained using large amounts of textual data. As a result, it exhibits the phenomenon of hallucinations, in which it produces reactions that could plausibly transmit false information.

Google Cloud’s offerings are the latest example of generative AI’s growing influence in the retail industry. Amazon debuted an AI tool for sellers in September, and the latest holiday shopping season saw many retailers incorporating the burgeoning technology behind the curtain.

Also part of the lineup Google announced Thursday is a large language model feature that the company said will bolster the quality of product searches. The feature is currently available to select stores, with general availability on its way later this year, the company added.

Google’s newly unveiled AI products additionally include tools for enhancing retailers’ customer service systems and expediting their product cataloging processes.

Beyond online shopping, brick-and-mortar stores are also getting new AI capabilities through Google Distributed Cloud Edge, an existing hardware and software product.

WEB DESK: In a major development aimed at bolstering the freelance industry in Pakistan, Caretaker IT and Telecom Minister Dr Umar Saif declared on Wednesday the establishment of 10,000 e-Rozgar centres nationwide.

The move is designed to provide essential support to the approximately 1.5 million freelancers operating in the country, many of whom lack proper workspaces.

Dr Saif, in a statement shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighted the importance of convenience for freelancers to enhance their work performance and efficiency.

He emphasized that facilitating one million freelancers could potentially lead to an annual revenue boost of approximately $10 billion.

The minister underscored the significant role already played by existing measures, such as permitting freelancers to retain up to 50 per cent of their export earnings and facilitating easy payment processes.

These initiatives, coupled with the new e-Rozgar centres, are expected to spur rapid growth in freelance activities.

The Ministry of Information Technology identified that a significant portion of freelancers hails from smaller cities and towns.

Notably, female IT experts, primarily from remote areas with limited job opportunities in their field, constitute a significant demographic within the freelancing community.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by freelancers, including the lack of proper work environments and fast internet access at home, Dr Saif revealed that the newly proposed e-Rozgar centres would be fully equipped with all necessary facilities.

Each centre is projected to accommodate up to 100 individuals, providing an ideal working space for freelancers.

To encourage the transformation of properties into e-Rozgar centres, the government will extend interest-free loans to building owners.

This initiative aims to create a network of workspaces that fosters collaboration and connectivity among freelancers, enabling them to pursue high-end projects and enhance their professional growth.

The caretaker minister, speaking to the media, emphasized that the networking and connectivity aspects of the e-Rozgar centres would play a crucial role in creating a supportive environment for freelancers to undertake more lucrative opportunities.

This ambitious plan signals a significant step forward in empowering the freelance community and boosting the overall digital economy in Pakistan.
