Visa Launches Intelligent Authorization to Modernize Payment Processing
Staff Reporter
KARACHI: Visa (NYSE: V) has announced the launch of “Visa Intelligent Authorization,” a new capability on its Visa Acceptance Platform aimed at helping acquirers modernize payment processing through a single API integration, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming infrastructure maintenance.
According to the company, authorization is a critical component of digital payments, where acquirers send real-time requests through card networks to issuing banks for approval or decline within seconds. However, many legacy authorization systems are not equipped to meet the demands of modern commerce, resulting in lower approval rates, higher operational costs, increased compliance complexity, and slower expansion into new markets and payment experiences.
Visa Intelligent Authorization addresses these challenges by enabling transaction processing across major global and local card networks through a single integration. The solution offers an uptime of 99.999 percent and an average global approval rate of 96.3 percent, positioning it among industry-leading benchmarks.
The system can function either as a primary authorization processor or as a complementary solution alongside existing infrastructure, enhancing system resilience, ensuring business continuity, and supporting recovery mechanisms. It also provides real-time insights and payment updates, helping acquirers improve transaction approval rates, manage risk more effectively, and streamline operations.
Walter Lironi, Head of Value-Added Services for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Visa, said that as commerce continues to evolve rapidly, there is a growing need for modern authorization infrastructure capable of meeting new demands. He noted that many transactions still rely on outdated systems, while the new solution is designed to improve reliability and prepare the payments ecosystem for future developments.
Visa stated that the Intelligent Authorization capability is now available to eligible acquirers as part of the Visa Acceptance Platform, offering a scalable foundation for modern payment processing.
