آج سے ایک ہزار سال پہلے، جب مصر کے فرعونوں کی سرزمیں پر ریت کے طوفان اٹھا کرتے تھے، یہ دیو ہیکل اور قدامت پسند ہاتھی یعنی ماموتھ میرا سب سے وفادار دوست تھا۔ لوگ اسے دیکھ کر خوفزدہ ہو جاتے، مگر میرے لیے وہ صرف ایک پالتو ساتھی تھا جسے میں پیار سے 'قیصر' پکارتا تھا۔
​ہم دونوں نے مل کر مصر کے ریگزاروں، وادیِ نیل، اور قدیم کلیساؤں کے گنبدوں کے سایہ تلے بے شمار سفر کیے۔ جب بھی کوئی خوفناک صحرائی طوفان آتا، قیصر اپنی ہیکل سے مجھے ڈھانپ لیتا اور جب سخت گرمی میں پانی نایاب ہوتا، تو اس کی تیز حس ہمیں دور ویرانے میں بنے نخلستان تک پہنچا دیتی۔
