President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) upon Commander National Strategic Command (CNSC) General Syed Aamer Raza.

Last month, Lt Gen Aamer Raza, the chief of general staff, was promoted to the rank of a four-star general and appointed as the first CNSC – a position created by the 27th Constitutional Amendment to assume the nuclear manager role.

The prestigious award was conferred at Special Investiture Ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in “recognition of his meritorious contributions, outstanding professional acumen and distinguished services towards the defence and security of Pakistan,” the presidency said in a statement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, services chiefs, members of the federal cabinet, parliament, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.

The captain of an Air India Phuket-Delhi flight that suddenly lost about 300 feet of altitude last week has tested positive for ma*****na in a confirmatory drug test, Reuters reports citing sources.

Indian authorities opened an investigation into the incident which injured ⁠13 passengers and four crew members. The flight from the Thai tourist city experienced a "momentary altitude variation" while it was flying over the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The aircraft, carrying ⁠137 passengers and eight crew members, landed safely in Delhi.

Trigger Warning: A case has been registered against unidentified suspects after the body of a newborn, believed to be three to four days old, was found in the duct area of a high-rise residential building in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Video shows the vehicle crossing the Hawker Beechcraft 400A aircraft’s path before the driver appears to notice the jet and makes a last-second attempt to swerve.

A Syrian court sentenced ousted leader Bashar al-Assad to de@th after a trial in absentia, convicting him of crimes including k!llings, t0rture, and ‌arbitrary arrest during the country's 14-year civil war.

In a trial of former government officials on Tuesday, a judge handed down a de@th sentence to Assad over crimes of "premeditated and intentional mur-der of more than one person and of children, t0rture, arbitrary arrest and crimes against humanity".

Atef Najib, ‌a ⁠security official under Assad, was also sentenced to de@th. It was the first conviction against Assad, who was ousted in a rebel offensive in December 2024. He fled Damascus and is currently in Moscow.

National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned four people over alleged social media posts linking Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and his son to the alleged murder of young businessman Mir Raza Ali.

Memon approached the NCCIA over what he described as false, fabricated and malicious allegations circulating on social media in connection with Raza Ali's murder case. He alleged that the posts and videos were part of a campaign aimed at harassing him and his son and damaging their reputation.

The NCCIA has issued notices to Syed Abdullah, Amin Qureshi, Bilal Warsi, and Ubaid Qureshi, directing them to appear at its Karachi office at 11:30am on August 13 with their original identity cards, relevant evidence and documents and digital devices for their defence.

US President Donald Trump secretly departed Turkey on a military aircraft last month amid an alleged Iranian assassination thre@t against him while the White House publicly said he was aboard Air Force One, US media reported citing sources familiar with the operation.

According to The Washington Post, Trump boarded the older Air Force One jumbo jet in view of television cameras in Ankara before being quietly transferred minutes later to a smaller aircraft using an airport catering truck typically used to load meals and other supplies preflight.
