Renowned cricket journalist and commentator Qamar Ahmed has passed away at the age of 88.

Qamar Ahmed covered 348 Test and more than 600 ODI matches and every single World Cup during his sports journalism career.

He covered cricket events for all leading English newspapers around the world and frequently wrote sports articles for Dawn, BBC, Reuters and AFP. He also worked for various TV channels and radio stations as a commentator.

Qamar Ahmed was born on October 23, 1937, in Uttar Pradesh in present-day India. He played 17 first class matches from 1956-1962 as a slow arm bowler securing 36 wickets.

The United States and Iran have electronically signed a memorandum of understanding to extend their ceasef!re and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The 14-point agreement extends a ceasef!re announced in April by another 60 days, including in Lebanon, to allow the two sides to negotiate a final truce.

US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have both digitally signed the memorandum in English and Farsi, with Iran's foreign ministry saying the agreement was already in effect.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU) as a mediator. The prime minister announced that the MOU has been signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

In a post on X, the prime minister said the signing of this agreement demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.

He said Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States will immediately lift the naval blockade.

He added Pakistan with the support of co-mediator Qatar will host the official ceremony tomorrow in Switzerland, to commemorate this landmark event and commence with the technical level talks.

The Pentagon is restoring the name of the US Indo-Pacific Command to the US Pacific Command, reversing a 2018 decision.

The renaming will not change the command’s area of responsibility, which stretches from the western part of India to America’s Pacific coastline, the Department of War said in a statement.

Its “fundamental mission and its unwavering commitment to maintaining a free and open theater alongside regional allies and partners” also remain unchanged, it added.

The US Pacific Command, established by former President Harry Truman after World War II, operated under that name for over 70 years before being renamed as the US Indo-Pacific Command in 2018, in a nod to the growing importance of the Indian Ocean in US strategic thinking.

Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has reportedly captured a suspected senior operative of the ISIS-Khorasan (Daesh) terror group and brought him to Turkiye, Anadolu reports citing security sources.

The suspect, identified as Ahmet Kazanci and known by the aliases "Abu Ubeyde" and "Abu Ibrahim," was detained during the operation. Kazanci took over as the group's so-called media chief for Türkiye after the capture of his predecessor Ozgur Altun.

According to Turkish media reports, Kazanci traveled from Türkiye to the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, joined the ISIS-K and later assumed responsibility for the organization's activities. He was reportedly captured in an operation near the border region.
