Over Rs. 244 billion worth of overbilling and financial irregularities have been uncovered in Power Division subsidiaries, according to the Auditor General’s report. The irregularities were found in IESCO, LESCO, HESCO, MEPCO, PESCO, QESCO, SEPCO, and TESCO. In just one month, 278,000 consumers were sent extra bills totaling Rs. 47.81 billion.

The report states that overbilling was done to cover line losses and poor performance, but no action has been taken against those involved. QESCO alone overbilled agricultural consumers by Rs. 148 billion, while 18.64 billion rupees in extra bills were sent on 1,432 feeders. Audit authorities have asked all eight distribution companies for explanations.
