MOTHERS SHOULD DISCUSS BREAST CANCER WITH THEIR DAUGHTERS AND MAKE REGULAR CHECK-UPS A HABIT. SAIMA AHAD

"BREAST CANCER AWARENESS WALK" ORGANIZED BY THE UNIVERSAL SERVICE FUND (USF).

Islamabad, Thursday October 24, 2024 -

CEO Universal Service Fund Ch. Mudassar Naveed emphasized the importance of increasing awareness and early detection of breast cancer in Pakistan during his message at the "Breast Cancer Awareness Walk" organized by the Universal Service Fund (USF). This significant event, held at Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9), drew a substantial participant, including notable figures such as Joint Secretary MoITT, Ms. Saima Ahad, renowned Oncologist Dr. Muhammad Farrukh, USF employees, and women from diverse backgrounds.

Joint Secretary MoITT, Ms. Saima Ahad, emphasized the crucial role of open communication:
"Mothers must initiate conversations with daughters about breast cancer, instilling the habit of regular check-ups. This disease's hereditary nature necessitates proactive measures."

Ms. Ahad said, to tackle this, the government is utilizing various channels to create awareness. For instance, she urged Media to use their platforms to educate the public about breast cancer, especially in small towns and rural areas. This includes encouraging women to conduct regular self-examinations and seek medical help if they detect any abnormalities.
Together, we can break the silence and save lives," She added.

CEO Universal Service Fund, Chaudhry Mudassar Naveed, pledged USF's support for government initiatives and organizations combating breast cancer in the country. He urged people to join the movement to spread awareness and save lives. Early detection and prevention are crucial in combating breast cancer as; "Protecting Women, Preserving Generations", Mudassar added.

Mr. Mudassar Naveed, further stated that USF, a Government of Pakistan initiative under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, is dedicated to bridging the digital divide by expanding telecommunications access across Pakistan.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the alarming breast cancer prevalence among Pakistani women, USF organized a walk to: Raise awareness about breast cancer symptoms and prevention, Support early detection and treatment efforts and to Promote a healthier, more informed community.

Renowned Oncologist Dr. Muhammad Farrukh stressed that breast cancer is curable if detected early. He recommended: Monthly self-examinations, Yearly examinations by caregivers and Screening starting at an early age. Dr. Farrukh highlighted socio-cultural barriers to timely treatment: "Feminine sensitivity, stigmatization, and aversion to male doctors hinder women from seeking care. Breaking these barriers is crucial for effective breast cancer management."

Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), the premier representative body of Pakistan's thriving IT industry, proudly hosted the prestigious HBL-P@SHA ICT Awards 2024 at a local hotel in Islamabad on Monday. This esteemed event promoting Made in Pakistan, recognized and honored companies that have demonstrated exceptional service and innovation in Pakistan's IT sector.

Minister of State for Information Technology & Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khwaja, graced the event as Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included SIFC and government officials, diplomats, top IT industry representatives, startups, and prominent personalities.

The prestigious HBL-P@SHA ICT Awards 2024 recognized and honored the most innovative solutions in Pakistan's IT industry, presenting 33 Gold Awards and 47 Merit Awards across various top-tier categories, including Consumer, Business Services, Inclusion & Community, and Student Innovation. This year, P@SHA received an overwhelming response, with more than 1,198 applications for these esteemed awards. Over the course of 15 rigorous judging cycles, industry veterans served as judges to identify the best talent in the country.

On this occasion, the Minister of State, Ms. Shaza Fatima, specially informed the participants about the government's initiatives for the IT sector.

Speaking at the event, P@SHA Chairman Muhammad Zohaib Khan said, "It has always been our effort to reach every forum of the government to fulfill the legitimate demands of the IT companies in the country. SIFC's full support was received, which is the reason why IT export graphs are constantly rising and setting new records these days."

Zohaib further said that P@SHA is driving Pakistan's digital economy forward, cultivating trust and facilitating growth within the digital landscape. By generating thousands of employment opportunities and advocating for a more efficient and transparent government, P@SHA has proven instrumental in shaping the nation's technological future. The association's initiatives have directly contributed to a significant and sustained surge in Pakistan's IT exports over several quarters, reaching $3.22 billion this year and continuing to grow – a compelling indicator of the industry's resilience and potential.
