SALU Khairpur and KASBIT Karachi Sign MoU to Boost Academic and Research Collaboration

Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari Institute of Technology (KASBIT), Karachi, marking a significant step toward strengthening academic and research ties between the two institutions.

The agreement was signed at the KASBIT campus by Dr. Imran Ahmed Shah, Focal Person ORIC, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur @ Ghotki, alongside Professor Dr. Adnan Butt, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences. The signing ceremony was also attended by Dr. Usama Iqbal, Director of QEC, and Dr. Muhammed Mubeen, Director of ORIC, who were present to formalize the partnership.

According to the terms of the MoU, the strategic partnership is designed to enhance academic and research synergy between the two institutions. The collaboration will prioritize several key initiatives, including student and faculty exchange programs, the joint organization of conferences and symposiums, and collaborative research projects and consultancy services.

The partnership will further encompass active participation in shared seminars and academic meetings, the reciprocal exchange of academic materials and resources, and the joint promotion and dissemination of scientific research.

By aligning their resources, SALU and KASBIT aim to foster academic excellence and cultivate new avenues for institutional growth and innovation.

Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk, personally participated in the drive and completed his IRIS registration, encouraging the University community, particularly students, to benefit from the facility and strengthen their civic and digital identity.

SALU Hosts One-Day Workshop on Outcome Based Education

The Institute of Computer Science (ICS) at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, organized a comprehensive one-day workshop titled "Effective Implementation of Outcome Based Education" today. The event, exclusively designed for faculty members, was held at the FYP-Lab within the ICS department.

Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, graced the occasion.

Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk said the workshop directly served its core objectives by strengthening the faculty's capacity to align course delivery with measurable learning outcomes. "The formulation of CLOs and PLOs, their mapping, and the assessment of attainment are exactly the competencies our faculty needed. This training ensures that our lecture delivery is linked to defined outcomes, and that new terms and tools introduced here connect directly to degrees and results," he said.

He emphasized that the workshop's focus on Continuous Quality Improvement would enable the university to evaluate whether its programs should continue or be revised. "It will help us know what the outcomes are and whether a program should continue or not. In future, deans and other stakeholders should be part of such workshops, as their participation would further enhance outcomes," he remarked.

Highlighting the broader purpose of Outcome Based Education, the Vice Chancellor said the ultimate objective is to produce graduates who create a meaningful impact on society. "Many cases exist where students hold degrees but do not impact society, and we have to find these gaps. The assessment rubrics and CLO/PLO measurement techniques taught today will help us bridge them," he said.

He reaffirmed the university's commitment to sustaining these efforts, stating, "We should continue such workshops and implement the latest tools to enhance outcomes. Whatever commitment we make, we will go ahead. Such workshops will help bear good fruits, and we will introduce such practices in departments."

The workshop was led by Dr. Wazir Ali Jamro, Assistant Professor at QUEST Nawabshah, who served as the trainer for the session. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Samina Rajper, Director of the Institute of Computer Science, and Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences.

Dean Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh stated that OBE is being implemented and the faculty is learning through such initiatives. "Whenever a product is produced, different aspects of quality are checked. Similarly, this effective implementation of Outcome Based Education is for the university, where the product is the student," he explained. He noted that Dr. Wazir Ali Jamro conducted the workshop, covering how learning and programs are defined and processed, and that attributes would be included in the next workshop. He also observed that the majority of institutions have now transitioned to OBE.

Dr. Samina Rajper, Director of the Institute of Computer Science, extended a vote of thanks, acknowledging that the Vice Chancellor's support proved beneficial in organizing such activities. She thanked the trainer and faculty for their support and reaffirmed the commitment to implementation.

The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari. Shields were presented to the Vice Chancellor, the resource person, the Dean, and the Director, while certificates were awarded to Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Mahar, Dr. Asadullah Kehar, Dr. Rafaqat Arain, Dr. Hidayatullah Shaikh, Dr. Mashooque Ali Mahar, and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh and Dr. Rafaqat Arain shared their experience of the one-day workshop, describing how beneficial it was for them and the institute, and how it should be implemented in practice. Among others present were Prof. Dr. Taj Lashari, Prof. Dr. Mujeeb Ur Rehman Abro, Sarfraz Korejo, Dr Sahib Oad and Waseem Kalhoro.

The workshop aimed to equip faculty with essential tools for modern academic structuring. The curriculum covered the development and formulation of Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), alongside strategies for effective CLO-PLO mapping and assessment. Participants also engaged in sessions dedicated to the development and use of assessment rubrics, the measurement of CLO/PLO attainment, and the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) mechanisms. The workshop concluded with hands-on practical activities based on the courses and programs currently offered by the Institute of Computer Science.

Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has formally begun preparations for the Admission Test 2027, setting the stage for the upcoming General Admissions 2027. A high-level meeting was held at the Syndicate Hall of the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat to ensure a transparent, accessible and student-friendly admission process.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk, who comprehensively reviewed the overall General Admission 2027 process, examined the admission prospectus, and assessed the question papers and arrangements for the upcoming Admission Test.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor directed that social media and other digital platforms be extensively utilised to take the Admissions 2027 message to prospective students across Sindh and beyond, particularly those living in remote areas. He also called for the active involvement of students, teachers, alumni and other stakeholders so that no deserving student misses an opportunity simply because information did not reach them.

β€œMany talented young people in our region come from remote and financially constrained backgrounds. SALU is committed to opening the doors of quality higher education to them through affordable fees, scholarships and equal opportunities,” Dr Khushk said.

He added that SALU offers various scholarship opportunities to its students and continues to strengthen linkages with national and international universities and organisations, providing students with wider opportunities for learning, research, skills development and professional growth.

The Vice Chancellor said that the University’s focus is not merely on awarding degrees, but on preparing young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Dr Khushk appreciated the Admission Committee for its dedicated efforts and directed all concerned officials to make the entire admission process transparent, merit-based, simple and welcoming for every applicant.

The meeting reviewed three major areas: the overall General Admission 2027 process, the admission prospectus, and the question papers and arrangements for the upcoming Admission Test.

The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Dr Wahid Bux Jatoi (Main Campus), Professor Dr Maqsood Zia (Ghotki Campus), and Professor Dr Minhoon Khan Laghari (Shahdadkot Campus).

SALU Students Undertake Learning Visit to Sukkur District Council to Promote Engaged Citizenship

In line with the vision of the Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Meritorious Prof Dr Yousuf Khushk for strengthening university–local government linkages and providing students with practical learning opportunities, a delegation of SALU students visited the District Council Hall, Sukkur, under the youth development initiative β€œEmpowering Youth for Engaged Citizenship.”

The learning visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding of civic education, local governance, democratic participation, public service delivery, and responsible citizenship, while providing them with direct exposure to the functioning of a local government institution.

The delegation was led by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Coordinator, Students’ Societies Center (SSC), SALU, and Prof. Dr. Mujeeb Rehman Abro, Chairman, Department of Media and Communication Studies, SALU.

On behalf of Mr. Kumail Haider Shah, District Chairman Sukkur, Mr. Sardar Taqi Darejo briefed the students about the structure, functions, procedures, and working mechanism of the District Council. He also highlighted the importance of meaningful youth participation in local governance, democratic processes, and community development.

During the interactive session, students took keen interest in the functioning of local government institutions and raised questions regarding youth participation, civic engagement, municipal services, local governance, and opportunities for young people to contribute to community development.

Following the civic learning session, the students undertook a recreational and educational boat trip on the River Indus. The activity provided them with an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the mighty Indus and connect their civic learning with the cultural, environmental, and natural heritage of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Mujeeb Rehman Abro emphasized the importance of experiential learning and said that exposure visits enable students to connect classroom knowledge with real-world institutions, governance systems, and community issues.

Faculty members and representatives associated with the Shehri CBE training programme also accompanied the delegation, including Ms. Sadia Larik, Mr. Sarwar Khalid, Coordinator, Shehri CBE – Citizens for Better Environment, Mr. Rehan Ashraf, Assistant Coordinator, Shehri Organization, and Mr. Anwar Mahar, Nari Foundation.

Dr. Ali Raza Lashari appreciated the cooperation of the Sukkur District Council and Shehri CBE team, stating that such initiatives are important for developing informed and responsible young citizens. KHAIRPUR: Under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Meritorious Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, a high-level follow-up meeting was held to advance the already completed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DPED), Government of Sindh, and the Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Qudoos Memon, Regional Director, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Sukkur Region, Government of Sindh; Dr. Mansoor Hussain, Deputy Director, Inclusive Education, Government of Sindh; and Dr. Zahid Sahito, Incharge Chairman, Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. The delegation also held a preliminary pursuit meeting with Mr. Muhammad Tuaha Ahmed Farooqui, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DPED), Government of Sindh.

The already completed MoU between DPED, Government of Sindh, and the Department of Special Education, SALU Khairpur, formed the basis of the discussions. A central agenda item was the establishment of an Inclusive Classroom at the Department of Special Education, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, as a model facility for inclusive pedagogy, teacher training, and support for learners with diverse needs.

The proposal for the Inclusive Classroom, together with the implementation plan under the completed MoU, was formally submitted to the Secretary, DPED, for consideration and ex*****on. The initiative aims to strengthen inclusive education practices in Sindh, enhance the professional capacity of teachers, and create an accessible learning environment at the university in line with provincial priorities for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Participants expressed appreciation for the guidance and patronage of Meritorious Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk and acknowledged the commitment of the DPED leadership under Secretary Mr. Muhammad Tuaha Ahmed Farooqui toward timely, campus-based implementation of the signed MoU.

SALU Joins Mega Tree Plantation Drive in Sukkur along with Shehri Officials

SALU, September 11, 2026: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, actively participated in the Mega Tree Plantation Drive organized by Chairman TMC-III Mr Tarique Chohan in Sukkur on the directives of Worthy Vice Chancellor Meritorious Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk. SALU Promotes Youth Mental Health and Su***de Prevention Awareness on World Su***de Prevention Day

In connection with World Su***de Prevention Day, observed globally on September 10, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, organized an awareness programme under the theme β€œCreating Hope Through Action.”

The programme was organized by the Students’ Societies Center (SSC), SALU, in collaboration with the Servants of Sindh Education & Health Trust (SSEHT), under the guidance and directions of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk.

The programme focused on mental health awareness, su***de prevention, emotional well-being, help-seeking and youth empowerment. Speakers highlighted the importance of empathy, timely intervention, professional support and creating a safe and supportive environment for students.

Dr. Rafique Ahmed, Senior Lecturer and Clinical Psychologist, ZABIST University, Larkana, and Dr. Irshad Ali, Clinical Psychologist, delivered an informative session on β€œInterventions and Management of Suicidal Behaviors.” Dr. Nabiha Gaffar of BNB University, Sukkur, presented a documentary on mental health awareness, while Engr. Ali Hassan and Mr. Elahi Bux shared valuable perspectives on mental health and su***de prevention.

Addressing the students, Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Coordinator SSC, SALU, emphasized the important role of youth and student societies in building a caring, supportive and mentally healthy university environment. He stressed that creating hope requires collective action, compassion and a willingness to listen to and support those facing difficulties.

At the conclusion of the programme, students expressed their commitment to promoting mental health awareness, supporting one another and contributing to a culture of hope and compassion, reaffirming the message: β€œCreating Hope Through Action Together, We Can Build a Hopeful Tomorrow.”

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Zahid Shaito, Chairperson, Department of Special Education.
