Govt approves Ravi embankment project

The Punjab government has approved the construction of a massive protective embankment along the Ravi River to safeguard urban areas from potential flood risks.

The project, costing Rs. 214 billion, aims to make Lahore safe from recurring flood threats.

The plan includes the construction of a 90-km-long retaining wall on both sides of the Ravi River. The wall will be 300-feet wide and 27-feet high with water training structures designed to regulate the river’s flow and prevent inundation.

Trump increases tariff on India to 50%

United States President Donald Trump has announced a 25% additional tariff on Indian goods.

He signed the executive order on Wednesday, which will come into effect from August 27. With this move, the total tariff on Indian exports to the US will now rise to 50%.

Earlier, Trump had declared a 25% tariff on India on July 30.

The latest executive order states that the additional 25% tariff is a response to India's ongoing purchase of Russian oil.

Meanwhile, India called the United States' move "unfortunate" and reiterated its stand that India would continue to protect its national interests.

Body of man missing for 28 years found in glacier in Kohistan

The body of a man, who had been missing for 28 years, was found perfectly intact inside a glacier in the remote Lady Valley of Kohistan last Friday.

The body was identified as Naseeruddin, son of Bahram, from the Saleh Khel tribe, through an undamaged national identity card found in his pocket.

According to eyewitnesses, the clothes and physical features of the body were intact.

Naseeruddin had disappeared in 1997 after reportedly falling into a glacial crevasse along with his horse while returning from the Sapit Valley.

Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 21 runs on the DLS method after rain stopped play for the second time in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a 402-run target with the help of Rachin Ravindra (108) and Kane Williamson (95).

Pakistan was on 161/1 in 21.3 overs when the downpour stopped the play. The target was revised to 342 runs in 41 overs.

Pakistan again came out in an attacking mode and took the score to 200/1 in 25.3 overs when the heavy rain stopped the proceedings.

Fakhar Zaman was unbeaten on 126 runs off 81 balls while Babar was unbeaten on 66 runs off 63 balls.
