In an effort to promote power generation using alternative energy sources, Federal government has proposed 0% tax on parts of solar PV modules panels manufacturing, machinery, and equipment, in the Finance Bill 2023-24.

The initiative aims to support domestic solar panel producers and promote solar energy consumption throughout the nation. The government proposes to exclude inverters, batteries, and other similar equipment from the duty in the financial bill.

The Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) has claimed that 50 % of ongoing construction projects have come to a halt due to a hike in steel bar prices by large-scale steel manufacturers.
ABAD asked Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar for the removal of the existing 30 percent regulatory duty on the import of steel bars for the revival of the construction industry.

Quetta has granted conditional permission for the construction of tall buildings in the city after amending the 1937 Building Code Act. This decision comes after 88 years since the devastating earthquake of 1935 that caused significant loss of life and property.

While addressing a Press Conference the Chief Census Commissioner and Chief Statistician of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), revealed the initial results of the 7th national and first-ever digital population census.
The Census Commissioner unveiled that Pakistan’s total population has now reached an impressive 249,566,743 individuals, which translates to approximately 249.5 million or around 25 Crore people.
Breaking down the population figures by province, it was found that Punjab remains the most populous province with a staggering population approximately 127.4 million or around 12.7 Crore people. Following closely behind is Sindh, with a population surpassing approximately 57.9 million or around 5.7 Crore people.

Pakistan approaching the end of the financial year, there is growing unease surrounding the development of the forthcoming budget. The present circumstances have become increasingly tense following the finance minister's choice to exclude input from the business community.
This has raised concerns that the upcoming budget may adopt an excessively stringent approach and be heavily influenced by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The relief measures through budget may be the final hope to regain the lost trust of supporters who are going through hell. It is worth mentioning that the prices of essential food items have sky-rocketed with wheat price surging 106.7% year on year, rice price by 87.86%, eggs by 100.88%, potatoes 76.87%, and pulse by 57.19%, taking food inflation for April to 46.8% and 52.2% in urban and rural areas respectively.

An IMF-dictated budget, will further burden the poor, though there is no escape.

Lucky Cement Limited will enhance its clinker production capacity with its Joint Venture (JV) partner in Samawah, Iraq, by adding a new line of 1.82 million tons per annum (MTPA), the company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Thursday.

Keeping in pace with the increasing demand for cement in Iraq and to secure the supply of clinker for the JV cement grinding facility in Basra, the other JV Company of Lucky Cement Limited and Al-Shumookh group, Iraq (Najmat-Al-Samawah or NAS), has resolved to enhance its production capacity of clinker in Samawah, by adding a new production line of 1.82 MPTA.

The mid-year United Nations survey on the world economic situation forecast that the inflation rate in Pakistan is expected to remain in double digits in the coming months owing to weakening local currency and supply-side constraints.

High inflation, tighter financial conditions, weaker private consumption, and external imbalances will continue to impact growth in 2023. As the region is highly vulnerable to extreme climate conditions, potential droughts and floods also pose a significant risk to the economic outlook, the UN survey.

The cement industry is persistently going through tough times as its sales contracted 16.55% in April 2023, reaching 2.951 million tons as compared to 3.536 million tons in the same month of last year.

According to data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, the industry sold 2.531 million tons of cement in the domestic market during April 2023 compared to April 2022 sales of 3.380 million tons, showing a decline of 25.13%.

Major disruptions will occur in the job market over the next five years as more companies adopt artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the global economy worsens, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said in its latest report.

AI and economic and social conditions are expected to result in 83 million job losses, with only 69 million jobs created by 2027, said the report.

That will result in a net loss of 14 million jobs, which represents 2% of current employment.

The advent of AI will risk many roles directly as robots replace humans in some instances. There could be some 26 million fewer record-keeping and administrative jobs by 2027, said the WEF.

The Punjab Central Business District Development Authority implemented the “Blue Road” idea in Lahore, in order to reduce air pollution.
A CBD spokeswoman stated that it is being used at the ongoing Kalma Chowk Underpass remodeling project and that blue asphalt will be used in road building.
The idea was initially developed in Qatar with the intention of modernising the city’s fundamental infrastructure and raising the standard of living for its residents.
