Afzal Saahir visited the University of Central Punjab, where he had a delightful conversation with Director of Administration Mr. Amjad Niaz, Dean of FMMC Dr. Fawad Baig, Former Dean Dr. Taimoor Ul Hassan, and Dr. Ayesha Sadiqa. In recognition of his contributions to Punjabi literature, Mr. Niaz presented him with a bouquet and a UCP souvenir.
Afzal Saahir is an internationally acclaimed poet known for his diverse talents in journalism, writing, radio hosting, drama writing, production, and lyricism. He has authored several books and is a leading figure in the revival of Punjabi language and literature. Often introduced as Pakistan’s Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Afzal prefers to be recognized for his unique approach to poetry, confronting pain as a collective experience rather than a romanticized one. His work is deeply influenced by folk poetry, music, folklore, and Sufi traditions, and he is also a staunch advocate for women’s rights. Afzal Saahir holds key positions in several literary organizations, including Punjabi Parchar and the Punjabi Parhaao Movement, and co-organizes major cultural events like the Sufi Festival and Vasaakhi Festival in Pakistan. His contributions have earned him numerous awards, including the Masood Khadar Posh Award for Poetry, Baba Farid Award for Punjabi Poetry and Activism, and the Award of Distinction from the Central Association of Punjabi Writers in North America.
