LinkedIn recently made two announcements: first, they introduced new AI-powered tools, and now, they're letting go of 668 employees. Most of the job cuts, around 563, will affect their R&D teams, including engineering, product, talent, and finance.
These layoffs follow a previous announcement where LinkedIn cut 716 jobs and phased out its app in China. In total, since Microsoft acquired LinkedIn, 1,384 employees have been laid off. It's worth noting that 2023 has seen over 242,000 job cuts in the technology sector, as reported by Layoffs.fyi.
LinkedIn mentioned that they are making organizational changes and focusing on their strategic priorities, which may include hiring more AI talent. Despite the layoffs, they emphasized their commitment to supporting affected employees during this transition.
After Microsoft's acquisition in 2016, LinkedIn became less transparent about its financial details. However, in July 2023, Microsoft reported that LinkedIn had over 950 million members and generated over $15 billion in revenue, with Talent Solutions being a major contributor. They continue to use AI to enhance user experiences and connect members to opportunities.
