Lieutenant General Munir Afsar has been officially appointed as the Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) following the federal cabinet's endorsement of his appointment. This decision was made after careful consideration of three recommended candidates presented by the interior ministry's selection committee.
Lieutenant General Afsar, a three-star general who attained this rank in October 2022, brings extensive experience in IT-related technical development and management, both within the Pakistan Army and during his service with Pakistan's Mission in the United Nations (UN). He holds impressive academic qualifications, including an MPhil in Public Policy and National Security Management, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Remote Sensing at NUST Islamabad, focusing on the innovative integration of remote sensing and artificial intelligence for the detection of plant diseases.
Furthermore, Lieutenant General Afsar has been recognized with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) award for his outstanding contributions. His career has been marked by significant achievements, including his role in developing a GIS application for flood recovery during the 2010 floods in Pakistan.
In various positions, including Director General of the DG Command, Control, Communication, Computers, and Intelligence (C41) Directorate and Commander of Pakistan Army Cyber Command, he has demonstrated his expertise in IT-related matters, making him a highly qualified and accomplished choice for the role of NADRA Chairman.
