Malik Haider Ali is a final-year A-Level student at Aitchison College, Lahore, with a strong interest in public health. Living in Lahore’s smog-laden environment sparked his passion and led him to research the effects of air pollution on respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, and pneumoconiosis.

He compiled a comprehensive literature review on the subject and advocates for empowering students to explore research in areas they care about. Haider believes that by critically observing their surroundings, young people can identify urgent community issues and help shape a better future.

Faiqa Mansab is a Pakistani writer and the author of This House of Clay and Water and The Sufi Storyteller. Her debut novel, This House of Clay and Water, was published by Penguin India in 2017. It was an Amazon Editor’s Pick and an Amazon International Women’s Writing selection and was shortlisted for the Getz-Pharma Literary Award and the German Consulate Peace Prize in 2018.

Faiqa holds an MFA in Creative Writing with high distinction from Kingston University London, where her thesis received The Best Thesis Award. She also earned an MA in Gender Studies from Birkbeck University. Recognized for her literary and academic achievements, she was awarded the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship in 2019 and the Saari Fellowship by the Kone Foundation in 2024.

Mehreen Shahid is passionate about maternal and reproductive health. Through her NGO, Safe Delivery Safe Mother (SDSM), she works with her team to improve women’s access to skilled healthcare in rural and remote communities. They collaborate with the public sector and local organizations to reach high-need areas and have so far trained over 1,000 Skilled Birth Attendants and Lady Health Workers across Punjab and the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

In 2023, she received the prestigious National Development Leadership Award in recognition of her work in maternal health, family planning, and flood relief in Pakistan.

Mehreen joins MM Talks to discuss the critical role of SDSM in improving maternal health outcomes, the challenges women face in accessing skilled healthcare, and the urgent need for stronger healthcare systems in Pakistan’s underserved communities.
