✅ Understanding User Intent:
Semantic SEO prioritizes understanding the user's search intent, which is the reason behind a query. This involves analyzing the context and purpose of the search to provide more accurate and helpful results.

✅ Entity Recognition and Relationships:
Entities are the people, places, things, or concepts mentioned in the content. Semantic SEO involves recognizing these entities and understanding their relationships to one another.

✅ Content Depth and Breadth:
Semantic SEO emphasizes creating content that covers a topic comprehensively. This means addressing all relevant aspects, subtopics, and related entities to provide a complete and authoritative source of information.

✅ Contextual Relevance:
Contextual relevance is about ensuring that the content matches the context in which it appears. This involves aligning the content with the broader topic and subtopics, as well as the specific user query.

✅ Topical Coverage and Content Networks:
Building topical coverage involves creating a network of interconnected content that covers a subject extensively. This network should include main articles, supplementary articles, and related content that collectively enhance the site's authority on the topic.

✅ Micro and Macro Semantics:
Macro semantics involve the overall theme and context of a content piece, while micro semantics focus on the detailed relationships between individual words and phrases within the content.

💥 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝑨 𝑺𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑺𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒆?
A Semantic Search Engine is a type of search engine that focuses on understanding a user's intent and the contextual meaning of a query, rather than just matching keywords.

Semantic Search Engines, like Google and Bing, save billions of "facts" and "millions of entities" in their Knowledge Base to provide the most accurate information to the users.
-
↪️ You can relate it with Google’s announcement of Knowledge Graph on 16th May 2012 in a blog post with title: “Introducing the Knowledge Graph: things, not strings”

That blog post declared that google can understand the context and meaning of the search queries. Search results will not be based on just matching the words (Strings). Google will understand the underlying context and then show the results from its knowledge graph that contains the connected entities with their possible attributes.
-
🪔 Example of Semantic Search Engine’s Working
If you search “Apple” on Google, before this Knowledge Graph announcement, Google used to show all the related pages that contain word apple in it. It means SERP used to show results about apple fruit, apple company, apple products’ review pages and any page containing 'apple'.

✔️ It means just matching the words without understanding the context or user intent.

✅ But after becoming a Semantic Search Engine, now Google seeks for clues to understand the context and underlying user intent.

✔️ Now if you search ‘Apple’ in Google, you’ll not see any result on SERP about apple fruit because from users’ search pattern, search demand and behavior, Google has concluded that users don’t search for apple by only writing word ‘apple’.

👉 Now, Google does not show apple fruit in search results until there is a proper clue/hint for that. For example, until you add word “fruit” with apple as an entity type to apple (entity) or you add any attribute of apple, Google will not show apple fruit related results.

👌 This is the simplest example how a Semantic Search Engine works by understanding the context and underlying intent of the user before giving the results.

🪝 Wait for the next concept.

💥 What are Knowledge Domains?
Knowledge Domains are the domains of:
- specific queries,
- entities,
- layout designs,
- search patterns, and
- user segments.

🪔 Let’s make it simpler.
A knowledge domain is a way to categorize and organize web content into specific areas of expertise, enabling more accurate, relevant, and contextually appropriate search results.

💡 Example of Knowledge Domains:
For a specific topic like “Weight Loss”, search engines arrange:
- All the related entities of Weight Loss, their attributes and related queries’ along with all the possible contexts, connected with semantically and contextually-optimized connections
- All the related users’ clusters who search weight loss related queries, users’ search patterns, users’ behaviors, user segments and user satisfaction model for weight loss queries etc.
- All the related websites and webpages covering weight loss topics and contexts, sentence-information structure and layout designs for weight loss related websites along with healthcare professionals’ information and their relevant information semantically and contextually optimized for weight loss

Why Are Knowledge Domains Important for Search Engines❓

✔️ Categorization and Organization:
Knowledge domains enable search engines to categorize vast amounts of information into distinct areas or topics. This organization helps in structuring data in a way that is logical and accessible.

✔️ Entity Recognition & Relationship Mapping:
Search engines use knowledge domains to recognize entities (people, places, things) and understand the relationships between them. This involves identifying attributes and associations that define these entities.

✔️ Semantic Understanding:
Knowledge domains facilitate semantic understanding, allowing search engines to comprehend the context and meaning of queries. This goes beyond mere keyword matching to understanding the intent behind a query.

✔️ Improved Relevance & Responsiveness:
By leveraging knowledge domains, search engines can enhance the relevance and responsiveness of search results. This means providing users with precise and contextually appropriate answers to their queries.

✔️ Knowledge Graphs & Rich Results:
Search engines build knowledge graphs that visually represent the connections within a knowledge domain. These graphs help in generating rich results like featured snippets, knowledge panels, and entity cards.

Are you worried about declining traffic of your Website/Store?

Do you want to increase B2C or B2B traffic?

Here's an interesting advice for B2C/B2B SEO from "Query Semantics SEO case Study" by Koray Tuğberk Gübür.

"To be able to be successful on the search engine optimization, sometimes, you have to Augment the Queries, and you need to Connect Them to Your Own Context that's why it is important to understand the Query Semantics."

(These are Koray's words in Video Case Study, Listen Yourself from 03:20)

Let's explain Koray's words:

What is Query Augmentation?
(Search Engine's Perspective)
Query augmentation refers to the process of enhancing or modifying a search query to improve the relevance and accuracy of the results shown by a search engine. This process can involve various techniques to expand or refine the original query based on additional information, user intent, or contextual data.
Relevant Google Patent: Query Augmentation (Search & Find on Google)

How to Augment Queries for B2B Ecommerce?
The concept of "augmenting the queries" refers to the practice of enhancing or expanding the queries to include additional search intents and contexts that might not be explicitly stated by the user but are inferred from the user's search intent.

For a B2B e-commerce website, this might involve anticipating broader or adjacent needs and interests of the business customers and incorporating these into the SEO strategy.

Connecting Queries to Your Own Context:
Koray emphasizes the importance of connecting these augmented queries to the specific context of your own business. This means aligning the queries with the nature, products, and services of the B2B e-commerce platform. By doing so, the website can better address the specific needs and search behaviors of its business customers.

Importance of Understanding Query Semantics:
The successful implementation of these strategies is connected with deep understanding of query semantics. Query semantics involves comprehending not just the literal meaning of the words in the search queries but also grasping the broader context, intentions, and nuances behind these queries. This understanding allows for a more effective mapping of user searches to the content and offerings on the B2B e-commerce site.
