Trump says US-Iran talks to continue, declares ceasefire is over

US President Donald Trump said Iran has requested the continuation of negotiations with the United States, adding that Washington has agreed to resume talks despite declaring that the ceasefire has ended.

In a statement, Trump said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue talks. We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the ceasefire is over."

The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with uncertainty continuing over the future of diplomatic efforts between the two countries.

US and Iran exchange fire for second day as Tehran's chief negotiator says 'breaking promises no longer cost-free'

The US and Iran have exchanged another round of strikes overnight - if you are just joining our live coverage, here's what you need to know:

The US launched fresh airstrikes on Iran overnight, which Donald Trump said was "in retribution for yesterday's bombing of ships by Iran"
US Central Command (Centcom) said it had hit approximately 90 Iranian targets in the latest round of strikes, which it said were designed to "further degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz"
Hours after strikes were reported, the US president told journalists aboard Air Force One that Iranian officials had called "just a little while ago" and wanted to make a deal "so badly" - but he was not sure whether they were "worthy" of a deal
Several Gulf nations have since reported attacks - this included explosions in Bahrain's capital Manama, Kuwait intercepting missiles and drones, and Qatar issuing a security alert
Iran's parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is also the country's chief negotiator with the US, said on X that America "still hasn't learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free"
The latest round of strikes come after the US said it had struck "over 80 targets" in strikes aimed at Iran on Tuesday in response to attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz
During an appearance at a Nato summit in Ankara, Trump was asked about the state of the ceasefire and said: "To me, I think it's over." He described the Iranians as "scum" and "sick people"

One of football's great careers will finish without the biggest prize after Cristiano Ronaldo's final World Cup match for Portugal ended with a 1-0 last-16 defeat by Spain.
He was in tears as his World Cup story ended in Dallas with Mikel Merino's injury-time winner sending their neighbours through.
The 41-year-old five-time Ballon d'Or winner, five-time Champions League winner and Euro 2016 champion has scored a world-record 976 goals for his clubs and country.
He has scored at a record six World Cups. But the closest he got to winning it was when Portugal reached the semi-finals in his first tournament in 2006.
He had already announced this would be his final World Cup - but said afterwards "I will meet the family and take decisions with a calm head" when asked if he would keep playing for his country.
Whether Portugal would have had a better chance of winning this World Cup without the pressure to start Al-Nassr's Ronaldo in each game will remain open to debate.

Red card system in disarray over Trump, Fifa and Balogun decision

It had become one of the game's great certainties. If you are sent off at the World Cup, you will miss the next game.
No ifs, no buts, no appeals.
The decision to effectively overturn the red card shown to United States' star forward Folarin Balogun leaves many unanswered questions.
Balogun, sent off in the last-32 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, will now be available to play in the last 16 against Belgium on Monday. He's the US's top scorer at the tournament with three goals.
There have been 189 red cards in the history of the World Cup, and only two players have not served a suspension.
The other came in 1962, when Brazil's Garrincha was sent off against Chile in the semi-final, but played in the victory over Czechoslovakia in the final.
Back then, however, there was no automatic ban. It was decided by committee with evidence given by the officials.
The Fifa disciplinary committee's decision in 1962 was shrouded in allegations of political interference, external.
Given the well-established close relationship between the White House and Fifa, questions will be asked because of what is a highly unusual decision in favour of the co-hosts.
The BBC's US media partner CBS News has confirmed that Balogun's reinstatement came after US president Donald Trump called Fifa president Gianni Infantino on Thursday and spoke about the suspension, sources familiar with the call told CBS News.
