According to an Ipsos survey, approximately 76% of Pakistanis are willing to accept the results of the 2024 general elections, while only 7% have expressed reservations.

The survey, conducted as a pulse check related to the upcoming elections on February 8, indicates a majority commitment to the democratic system and electoral process.

The survey also revealed that 17% of respondents did not vote. In terms of geographical breakdown, 77% of rural residents and 74% of urban residents stated they would have no objections to the election results. Higher ratios of belief in election transparency and result acceptance were reported from rural areas.

Regionally, 79% of respondents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 78% in Punjab expressed readiness to accept the results. In Balochistan, 63% were willing, 74% in Sindh, and 53% in Islamabad had no reservations about the election outcomes.

The general elections are highly anticipated and are scheduled for February 8, 2024. Bringing the CNIC to the polling place is crucial, as casting a vote is impossible without it, and photocopies are not permitted.

The interim government will only consider suspending internet connections on election day, February 8, if a specific district or province requests it due to security concerns, stated interim Interior Minister Dr Gohar Ejaz on Tuesday.

During a press conference in Islamabad alongside interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi, Ejaz clarified that no decision has been made regarding the suspension of internet services anywhere thus far.

A day earlier, Solangi had dismissed the possibility of an internet shutdown on February 8, asserting that local administrations have the authority to decide on such measures based on the law and order situation. He emphasized that no such situation had been reported at the time.

Caretaker Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai had announced on Sunday that internet services would be temporarily restricted in sensitive polling booths in the province on election day.
