US President Donald Trump said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping made progress on a TikTok agreement and would meet face-to-face in six weeks in South Korea to discuss trade, illicit drugs and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The two sides appeared to lower tensions during the first call in three months between the leaders of the two superpowers, but it was not immediately clear that the call had yielded the expected firm agreement over the fate of the popular short-video app.

The leaders did agree to further talks on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum that starts on October 31 in Gyeongju, South Korea, and that Trump would visit China early next year, the U.S. president said. He also said Xi would come to the U.S. at a later date. Reuters previously reported that the two sides were planning such a meeting.

“We made progress on many very important issues including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal,” Trump wrote on social media.

“The call was a very good one, we will be speaking again by phone, appreciate the TikTok approval, and both look forward to meeting at APEC!” Trump wrote.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman Hafeezur Naeem said on Friday that Pakistan’s entire data is stored on foreign servers and is vulnerable to theft.

Shocking disclosures were made during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, where the PTA chairman confirmed that his personal SIM data has been available on the dark web since 2022.

He informed the committee that the data of individuals who submitted applications for Hajj had also been stolen and is now circulating on the dark web. Emphasising the need for robust data infrastructure, he said that a national data centre is essential to safeguard sensitive information. Ongoing investigations by the Ministry of Interior and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) are expected to determine the source and method of the data breach.

Highlighting the severity of the matter, Senator Afnanullah, a member of the committee, claimed that data theft and its subsequent sale had become a multi-billion-rupee industry. He alleged that powerful interest groups are attempting to block the passage of the proposed Data Protection Bill.

“I know I let you all down, but I promise to come back stronger and work even harder to make you proud. To be honest, I’ve been dealing with an injury since July 4th, which affected my preparation and fitness level. Despite this challenge, I gave it my all, and I appreciate the experience,” he said.

Nadeem ended his message by promising to “keep pushing” for Pakistan and return better prepared for future competitions.

Pakistan’s medal hopes were dashed on Thursday when Nadeem failed to qualify for the top eight in the men’s javelin final.

He began with an 82.73-metre throw, followed by a foul on his second attempt. His third throw measured 82.75m, and his fourth was ruled a foul, putting him outside the cut line for three more attempts.

Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has heaped praise on Pakistan’s left-arm pacer and star bowler Shaheen Afridi ahead of the much-anticipated match between the arch-rivals in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four stage on September 21.

“Shaheen [Afridi] is in excellent form, a small mistake can be costly [against him],” Kuldeep said during a press conference, adding that the players’ motivation was also high in the match against Pakistan.

The two sides went up against each other on September 14 in their Group A fixture, where the Men in Blue secured a seven-wicket win after chasing down the Green Shirts’ 128-run target.

Group A fixtures are yet to be completed, though India and Pakistan have already sealed qualification.

India will play their final group-stage match against Oman on Friday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Group B fixtures concluded on Thursday with Sri Lanka remaining unbeaten, winning all three matches to finish at the top with six points.

Bangladesh secured second place with two wins, collecting four points despite a negative net run rate.

Security forces carried out a targeted operation in Khuzdar on the night of September 14 and 15, killing five terrorists linked with the banned Baloch terror groups, the military’s media wing confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted following credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists, also referred to as Fitna-ul-Hindustan, in the area.

The security forces engaged the terrorists in a firefight that led to the killing of five individuals.

ISPR reported that a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the slain militants. These weapons were reportedly intended for use in carrying out future attacks in the region.

Taurees Habib made history in February as the second Pakistani to ever receive a Grammy and the first to do so in the field of sound engineering.

Though the award was announced earlier this year, Habib, who hails from Karachi, chose to keep the news private until the golden gramophone finally arrived at his residence. He unveiled the accolade on his social media on Tuesday, sharing both his excitement and the weight of the milestone.

“I’m so incredibly honoured to have received this for my work on Dune: Part Two, and to be the first Pakistani to receive this for engineering and only the second Pakistani ever to win a Grammy,” Habib wrote in a Facebook post.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 22 men accused of posing as a professional football team after Japanese immigration authorities uncovered their forged travel documents and deported them.

The impersonators, dressed in football kits, claimed they were registered with the Pakistan Football Federation and had scheduled matches with a Japanese club.

However, during questioning, Japanese immigration officials detected the fraud and deported the group back to Pakistan.

The FIA said the main suspect, Malik Waqas, who had registered a fake football club under the name Golden Football Trial, has been arrested in Gujranwala.

The trafficker, Ali, was arrested by the FIA’s Composite Circle Gujranwala, a spokesman of the FIA Headquarters said on Tuesday.

According to the FIA spokesperson, further investigation is under way to trace and apprehend his facilitators involved in this racket. “The arrest of Waqas Ali is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to dismantle human trafficking networks operating in the country.”

A case has been registered at the FIA’s Gujranwala police station and further inquiries are ongoing. Investigators said the organisers charged each man Rs4 million for the trip.

Authorities said all 22 individuals were trained to act like professional players and provided with forged documents.

During questioning, Waqas admitted he had earlier sent 17 people to Japan in January 2024 using the same modus operandi.

It is pertinent to mention here that scores of Pakistanis leave the country through illegal routes in search of a better future every year, with some losing their lives in accidents along the way.
