In a powerful display of operational readiness and maintenance excellence, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday conducted an impressive ‘Elephant Walk’ of its Dornier-228 (Do-228) aircraft fleet at Air Force Station Yelahanka. An ‘Elephant Walk’ is a military aviation term for the formation of aircraft taxiing in close proximity on a runway just before take-off. It serves as a demonstration of a unit’s ability to generate maximum sorties in a short duration and reflects high levels of coordination and technical proficiency.

The Training Command of the IAF (TRACOM) shared visuals of the formation, describing it as a testament to the seamless coordination between maintenance teams and aircrews.

The IAF further highlighted the guiding philosophy of the exercise with the motto “Balamcha Budhischa”
— where strength meets wisdom and training translates into capability.

The Dornier-228 is a highly versatile multi-purpose light transport aircraft used by the IAF for various roles, including commuter transport, maritime surveillance, and training.

Meanwhile, on September 3, US defence giant GE Aerospace on Thursday said that it had delivered three F404-IN20 engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in August for India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)
Tejas programme.

The delivery comes as HAL continues to receive F404 engines for the LCA Tejas MklA programme, which has faced delays due to supply constraints.Engine availability has been a key factor affecting the production and delivery of the LCA MklA aircraft. HAL has said its production line is ready, but deliveries depend on the availability of GE F404 engines.HAL is also imposing contractual penalties on GE for delays in the supply of F404 engines.

Kashmir’s high-altitude mountain areas received the season’s first snowfall Saturday as temperatures eased after a week of warm weather, while parts of the plains saw rain, hail and gusty winds, officials said.

The higher reaches along the Sonamarg-Zojila axis, including Gumri, received fresh snow. Zojila is a key road link connecting Kashmir with Ladakh.

In Bandipora district, snowfall was reported from Tulail near Gurez, including Kaobal Gali in the upper reaches of the valley. The mountains around Gulmarg also received fresh snow, while snowfall was reported separately from Mahadev Peak in the mountains surrounding Srinagar.

The snowfall was confined to the higher reaches, while lower-lying areas remained warmer. Temperatures in the plains nevertheless fell by a few notches, from around 30 degrees Celsius to the upper 20s. Srinagar and some other parts of the valley received light rain in the morning and again in the afternoon.

Hail and gusty winds were reported in some areas. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded 23.4 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg 19 degrees Celsius, Qazigund 27.2 degrees Celsius, Kokernag 27 degrees Celsius, and Kupwara 26.5 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, Jammu recorded 32.7 degrees Celsius, Katra 30.4 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah 27.7 degrees Celsius, Batote 27.9 degrees Celsius, and Banihal 27.9 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department said brief showers were possible Sunday, but weather was expected to remain generally dry over the next few days. The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar forecast generally dry weather with isolated rain or thundershowers from September 5-13. Scattered rain or thundershowers are likely on September 14-15, followed by generally dry weather with isolated showers from September 16-18.

A nearly 50-year-old five-storey building housing a boys’ PG accommodation collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, killing 10 students and triggering a major rescue operation as concerns were raised over construction work and building safety.

A around 50-year-old five-storey building housing a boys’ hostel collapsed in a congested bylane in Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus on Sunday afternoon, leaving two students dead and many trapped, officials said.

Eight people have been pulled out of the debris so far, of whom one was brought dead to the hospital, another died during treatment. Many are critical, and one rescuer who received injuries was discharged, police said.

Locals claimed that around 40 people were still trapped under the debris of the building, which comprised a basement and five upper floors.

Repair work was underway in the basement of the structure, which was used as a paying guest (PG) accommodation, when it collapsed at around 10.30 pm, a senior officer said.

Locals claimed that collection of water over days of rain in the basement had weakened the building’s foundation, leading to it eventual collapse.

Teams of Delhi Police, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service and DDMA, along with fire tenders and CATS ambulances, reached the spot and commenced rescue operations.

The festive spirit of Janmashtami is gathering momentum across the country, with temples, institutions and communities coming alive in a vibrant display of devotion and celebration ahead of the midnight celebrations.

Across the country, Janmashtami revealed itself in remarkably differentshades. For some, Lord Krishna appeared in the form of a child carried through a city street. For others, he came alive through dance, music, tableaux or the breaking of a ‘matki. In temples, he was worshipped amid flowers, jewellery and prayers; in neighbourhoods, he became part of celebrations shared by children, parents and entire communities.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also took part in Janmashtami celebrations, joining devotees marking the occasion in Ladwa, Kurukshetra.

Heyy Babyy 2 has been officially announced, and will be filmed extensively in Australia. Sajid Nadiadwala’s production house, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, has announced a three-film deal to shoot its upcoming projects in Australia, with the much-awaited sequel to the 2007 comedy Heyy Babyy among them. For the unversed, Heyy Babyy, directed by Sajid Khan, starred Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Vidya Balan and others.

The announcement was made on Thursday, September 3, during New South Wales Premier Chris Minns’ visit to Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment’s Mumbai office.

The Australia connection is particularly significant for Heyy Babyy 2, as the original Heyy Babyy was also filmed in Australia. The sequel will therefore take the franchise back to a country that was part of the first film’s production nearly two decades ago.

A devastating flash flood has turned Nepal into a disaster zone. Over 1500 people confirmed dead. 4000+ still missing. Entire villages wiped out. Infrastructure destroyed. The scale of devastation is catastrophic.

But here’s what’s infuriating Nepal’s government: They’re pointing fingers at India and China.

Nepal is seeking around $5 billion in climate compensation after devastating floods, blaming major emitters including India, China and the United States for a crisis it says it did little to create.

But putting India alongside China and the US as equally responsible ignores a crucial reality: their historical and per-capita emissions are vastly different. India is not a comparable historical polluter.

More importantly, climate change cannot automatically be treated as the sole explanation for every disaster. Flood risk also depends on land use, construction, slope stability, river management, infrastructure and disaster preparedness.

That raises uncomfortable questions about rapid infrastructure development across the Himalayan region, particularly Chinese projects in Tibet and along the Nepal-China corridor. Roads, hydropower projects, tunnels and settlements are being built in extremely fragile terrain. If such construction has increased vulnerability through slope cutting, sedimentation or altered drainage, it deserves a proper scientific investigation.

That does not prove Chinese projects caused the floods. But neither should those questions simply disappear from the conversation.

Lionel Messi said on Monday (August 31, 2026) he is retiring from international football after leading Argentina to a second successive World Cup final in July.

“It was a decision that hurt and still hurts deep in my soul but I understand that it is the right time,” Messi, 39, wrote on Instagram.

“I swear I always gave everything, not just in the last few years when we won everything but before that too, and I always fought and gave my all for this shirt,” he added.

Messi led Argentina to World Cup glory by winning the 2022 final against France in a penalty shootout in Doha, but his side lost 1-0 to Spain in the 2026 final.

Following the death of his father Jorge on August 8, 2026, Messi had said he had “serious doubts” about continuing to play football of any sort for “much longer”.

Messi’s contract with Major League Soccer club Inter Miami runs until the end of the 2028 season.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday for talks on bilateral ties and the conflict in Ukraine, urging the Russian leader to “move from endless war towards an end to the war.”

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek and comes days before the Russian President is due to travel to India for the annual BRICS summit.

The two leaders were expected to discuss traditional areas of India-Russia cooperation, including defence, energy, trade and investment.

During the talks, Modi said India had consistently discussed the Ukraine conflict with Putin and supported efforts towards peace.

“We have consistently discussed the issue of Ukraine. When we met previously, you briefed me in detail on all aspects of the matter. As you know, India supports all efforts towards peace and will continue to do so,” he said.

“Every day spent in war sets humanity back, whereas every step taken towards peace fills humanity with new hope and enthusiasm,” he added.

Modi said the conflict should move towards a peaceful resolution.

“We must move away from endless war towards an end to the war. This is essential for the well-being of humanity. A peaceful resolution to all issues at the earliest is the call of humanity, and this is India’s message,” he said.

“The land of Gandhi and the land of Buddha share a single message: the path of peace,” Modi added.

The two leaders also discussed Putin’s forthcoming visit to India for the BRICS summit.

“India is hosting the BRICS Summit in a few days, and all Indians are eager to welcome you and your delegation. Your visit will strengthen our bilateral relations and further reinforce dialogue and cooperation within the BRICS framework,” Modi said.
