The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the schedule for Australia’s upcoming T20 International tour of Pakistan, with a three-match series set to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore later this month. The fixtures will take place on 29 January, 31 January and 1 February, marking another high-profile international assignment on home soil.

Australia’s T20I squad is scheduled to arrive in Lahore on Wednesday, 28 January, a day ahead of the opening encounter. All three matches will be held under lights, with the coin toss set for 5:30pm Pakistan Standard Time, followed by the first ball at 6:00pm PKT.

The series holds significant importance for both sides as they fine-tune preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan will compete in Group A of the global event, while Australia have been placed in Group B, making the Lahore contests a valuable opportunity for both teams to assess combinations and match readiness.

Former Pakistan Test cricketer and ex-Chief Selector Mohammad Ilyas Mahmood passed away in Lahore after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 79. His death has triggered deep sorrow across Pakistan’s cricketing fraternity.

Born on March 19, 1946, in Lahore, Mohammad Ilyas represented Pakistan in 10 Test matches during the 1960s. An opening batsman and occasional legbreak bowler, he scored 441 Test runs, including one century and two half-centuries, at an average of 23.21. His most memorable innings came during Pakistan’s tour in the 1960s when he struck 126 runs, his only Test hundred, in a historic victory. In first-class cricket, he amassed 4,607 runs at an average of 35.71, including 12 centuries, underlining his domestic pedigree.

Beyond his playing days, Mohammad Ilyas continued to serve Pakistan cricket in administrative and selection roles, most notably as Chief Selector, where he played a part in shaping national squads during a crucial phase of the game’s development.

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has picked up a knee injury ​in Australia’s Big Bash League and will return home for rehabilitation ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup starting in February, his team Brisbane Heat said ‌on Tuesday.

Afridi, ‌25, suffered a ‌knee ⁠cartilage ​injury ‌fielding during Saturday’s win over Adelaide Strikers, Heat said in a statement.

Afridi, making ‍his debut in the Australian franchise-based T20 league, took two wickets in four appearances for ​Heat.

Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 with a group stage game against ‌Netherlands in Colombo.
