The 1933 Double Eagle is one of the most famous coins ever made in the United States.
It’s a $20 gold piece, but it never officially entered circulation. When the US left the gold standard, almost all of them were melted down.
A handful survived, and that’s what makes them so special today.
In 2002, one sold for $7.5 million. Then in 2021, another set a new record at $18.9 million.
