Actor Ramsha Khan has stepped away from social media and does not currently want to appear on camera, journalist Hassan Choudary said after speaking directly with her. Khan reportedly deleted or deactivated her Instagram account following her private April wedding to actor Khushhal Khan. Her decision came after alleged photographs from her nikkah were leaked online, prompting her to criticise social media pages for using her private life for publicity.

Her absence from her sister Alysha Khan’s wedding festivities recently also sparked speculation among fans about her whereabouts and personal life. Choudary said Ramsha told him she was happy and that stepping away from the spotlight was her own decision. He also said she had been considering leaving showbiz even before her marriage.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated its Azad Kashmir president, Shah Ghulam Qadir, for the post of prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir following consultations within the party. Qadir is expected to be elected leader of the House on Thursday, August 27, with his oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 5pm at the High Court Ground in Muzaffarabad.

Qadir is a veteran politician with more than three decades of parliamentary experience. He has been elected to the AJK Legislative Assembly seven times and has served twice as assembly speaker. He has also held key portfolios including finance, planning and development, food and information.

The nomination follows the 2026 AJK elections, in which PML-N emerged as the dominant parliamentary force, securing 25 of the 45 directly contested seats.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has identified young pacer Qayyum Khan as a promising new fast-bowling prospect capable of crossing the 150km/h mark. The right-arm bowler from Jhang recently recorded a top speed of 152km/h during an assessment at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

Qayyum, who began playing tape-ball cricket before progressing to competitive cricket, has represented Sports Board Punjab in Grade-II cricket and emerged through the Prime Minister’s Talent Hunt Programme. He is currently attending the PCB’s five-day fast-bowling development camp at the NCA, running from August 24 to 28.

PCB High Performance Director Aaqib Javed has identified Qayyum among several emerging express pacers and said the board aims to develop three to four bowlers capable of consistently approaching 150km/h.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been nominated for the Noble Sustainability Global Leadership Award, with the recognition linked to Punjab’s data-driven approach to climate resilience and technology-enabled governance. According to the report, the Swiss-based Global Sustainability Trust recognised provincial initiatives covering climate resilience, environmental protection, wildlife conservation, forestry, ecosystem restoration and air-quality management.

The Trust also highlighted the use of digital innovation, data-driven policymaking and technology to address environmental challenges and improve public services. As part of the recognition, Maryam Nawaz has been invited as Guest of Honour at the 2026 Noble Sustainability Trust Summit and Award Ceremony in Hong Kong on November 30, 2026. The nomination places Punjab’s environmental and climate initiatives within a broader international sustainability discussion.

Family meetings with incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan are expected to continue as long as relatives comply with agreed standard operating procedures, according to informed sources. His sister Noreen Khanum was allowed to meet him on Tuesday, marking her second meeting with him within a few days. The understanding reportedly requires family members to refrain from holding press conferences or issuing political statements after meeting Khan. Sources said restrictions had previously tightened after relatives publicly discussed their meetings and statements attributed to Khan appeared on social media. The latest relaxation is being viewed as a positive development for Khan and his family, with authorities reportedly prepared to allow more routine visits if the conditions are respected. The government has previously said Khan has received more than 900 visits from family, lawyers, doctors and other approved visitors since his imprisonment.

A high-altitude recovery team has reached the suspected location of Pakistani climber Dr Asma Mushtaq’s body on Gilgit-Baltistan’s Spantik Peak, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Wednesday. The 34-year-old climber died on August 20 while descending the 7,027-metre mountain, also known as Golden Peak, after suffering a serious high-altitude medical emergency at around 6,400 metres. Her body is believed to be at Camp 3, roughly 6,250 metres above sea level.

Tarar said heavy snowfall over the past two days had completely covered the suspected site, making the search difficult. The six-member team had resumed the mission after severe weather previously forced it to retreat. A helicopter has also been authorised to support the recovery once the body reaches base camp.

A grieving mother’s desperate plea outside Islamabad’s PIMS hospital has captured the anguish following Wednesday’s deadly fire that killed 14 newborns. “Give me my child back,” Jaweria said as she demanded justice after losing her newborn in the blaze. She alleged that rescue teams arrived too late and questioned why medical staff were not present to save the babies. Witnesses told AFP they encountered thick smoke, struggled to access the affected ward and broke windows in attempts to rescue those trapped inside. PIMS spokespersons said 15 babies were in the ward, with at least one saved by a doctor. Authorities have disputed claims of delayed rescue, saying teams arrived within six to seven minutes. A high-level inquiry is underway to determine the fire’s cause, safety failures and emergency response.

PIMS Fire Was an Accident, Action Will Follow if Negligence Found: Mustafa Kamal

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday described the PIMS fire that killed 14 newborns as an accident, while promising action if the ongoing investigation establishes negligence. Speaking outside PIMS, Kamal said the fire began at around 6:38am, when a spark reportedly came from an air-conditioning unit, and the room was engulfed within a minute. He said oxygen in the ward intensified the blaze.

Kamal said he was presenting himself for accountability and would accept any orders from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A fact-finding committee has been formed to determine the cause of the fire, assess fire-safety arrangements and examine the emergency response. The government has also removed the federal health secretary pending the investigation.

At least eight people have been killed and 384 travellers reported missing after devastating flash floods struck Nepal’s Himalayan region near the China border on Wednesday. The Nepal Tourism Board said the missing include 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals, with authorities working to verify their whereabouts. The floods hit Syabrubesi and surrounding areas, popular with trekkers and pilgrims travelling towards Kailash Mansarovar, sweeping away houses, vehicles and infrastructure. Nepal’s Army has deployed helicopters and disaster response teams as search and rescue operations continue. The disaster also damaged around 430 megawatts of electricity production capacity, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority. Across the border in Tibet, Chinese state media reported “major casualties” after a mudslide struck the Gyirong trade hub. Authorities have warned of the possibility of another flood.

Fourteen newborns were killed on Wednesday morning when a fire broke out in the Mother and Child Health ward of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Officials said the blaze began at around 6:54am after an air-conditioning unit reportedly exploded inside the nursery. At least 15 infants were in the ward, with one baby rescued by a doctor. Six fire brigade vehicles and four ambulances were deployed, and officials said the fire was brought under control.

Health Minister Mustafa Kamal attributed the fire to an air-conditioner blast, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an investigation and removed the federal health secretary. The deaths have triggered widespread demands for accountability, with politicians and journalists accusing authorities of negligence and questioning hospital safety, oversight and emergency preparedness.
