Common Name: Lilac-breasted Roller
Scientific Name: Coracias caudatus

Origin: Sub-Saharan Africa
Appearance: Medium-sized bird (about 36–38 cm including tail streamers) with a stunning blend of colors — lilac throat and breast, turquoise belly, greenish-blue head, and deep blue wings with black tips. Long tail streamers add elegance in flight.
Habitat: Open savannas, grasslands, and lightly wooded areas, often seen perched on trees or fence posts.
Behavior: Feeds on insects, lizards, small birds, and rodents; famous for acrobatic flight displays, especially during breeding; usually solitary or in pairs.
Range Map: Widespread in eastern and southern Africa, from Kenya to South Africa.
Interesting Facts: Named for its spectacular lilac breast; during courtship, it performs rolling dives in the air, which inspired the “roller” part of its name.
Conservation Status: Least Concern (IUCN) — Stable population.
