🐛 I had a serious caterpillar problem on our trees this year. Like... full-blown invasion. They were crawling up the trunks in waves, destroying leaves and stressing out the trees. I tried picking them off, spraying—nothing worked long term.
Then I read something in a gardening group that sounded odd but promising: caterpillars hate insulation and grease. I was skeptical, but I had nothing to lose.
So I grabbed some old insulation I had in the garage, wrapped it around the trunks, and secured it with duct tape. For extra protection, I added a light layer of grease to the bark below it (vegetable shortening worked fine).
The result? They refuse to cross the insulation. It literally stopped them in their tracks. I've never seen such a simple solution work this well!
