Pakistan is preparing for the rollout of 5G mobile phone connectivity in August 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. This decision is in response to the increasing demand for faster and more advanced telecommunications services.

The ministry has introduced a comprehensive business plan for the introduction of 5G services in the country. This plan includes hiring an international consultant to provide guidance for the project, establishing an Inter-Ministerial Advisory Committee to shape the future of 5G in Pakistan, and creating an auction policy and business strategy.

Pakistan's most successful female climber Naila Kiani added another feather to her cap on Monday when she became the first Pakistani woman to scale Cho Oyu — 8,188m tall and the world's 6th highest peak.

Naila reached the top of Cho Oyu at 12:30pm Nepal Time with the team of Imagine Nepal, which also included Sirbaz Khan.

Naila confirmed to this correspondent via her satellite phone that she has successfully summited the peak, which is her 10th peak of over 8,000m.

She is the first and only Pakistani woman to climb 10 eight-thousanders.

According to a Bloomberg report, the Pakistan rupee surged almost 6 percent in September, an astonishing feat as most currencies including the Thai baht and South Korean won tumbled against the dollar on the speculation US interest rates will stay elevated for longer.

The currency rose 0.1% to Rs287.95 per dollar on Thursday, after sliding to a record low of about Rs307 this month.

“Many leakages were happening through illegal channels of hawala and hundi trade from the open market,” Khurram Shehzad, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Beta Core Solutions Pvt. Ltd, a financial consultancy in Karachi told Bloomberg. Hawala and hundi are an informal system of fund transfer common in South Asia, it added.

“When the USD rate reverses everybody, the hoarders, the exporters who are holding their export proceeds, start selling their dollars,” Schehzad said.

According to the report, the Pakistani government intensified efforts by running after people involved in the illegal dollar trade that helped the currency.
