💻 7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Selling Web Design Services Online

👉 When I first started selling web design, I thought skill alone would win me clients. I was wrong.

Here’s my bold opinion: Selling web design isn’t about “pixels” or “pretty layouts.” It’s about people, processes, and positioning.

Let me save you years of trial and error. These are the 7 lessons I wish someone told me before I started 👇

1️⃣ Clients don’t buy websites.
They buy solutions to their problems. If you only sell “a site,” you’ll always compete on price.

2️⃣ Your portfolio matters less than you think.
Most clients don’t even click all your case studies. They want to know: Can you help me make money or save time?

3️⃣ Cheap clients are the most expensive.
The ones who haggle the most usually take the most energy. Choose clients who value your work.

4️⃣ Clarity in offers > complicated packages.
Don’t confuse people with 5 different options. Create one or two clear offers and own them.

5️⃣ Contracts save friendships.
A simple contract protects you from scope creep, late payments, and endless revisions.

6️⃣ Marketing yourself is part of the job.
You can be the best designer in the world—but if nobody knows, you’ll stay broke. Learn basic SEO, outreach, and social media.

7️⃣ Confidence closes deals.
Clients buy trust. If you don’t believe in your service, they won’t either.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆:
A client approached us to create a website for their driver services business. The main challenge was to design a visually appealing and user-friendly website that would cater to their target audience in the UAE.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉:
To address the client's needs, we took the following steps:

1. 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎: We recommended using WordPress as the content management system (CMS) due to its user-friendly interface, which would allow the client to easily make updates and changes to the website in the future.

2. 𝑶𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒔𝒆𝒓 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆: We conducted a thorough analysis of the client's competitors to ensure the website's user experience was optimized for the target audience. This included incorporating multiple booking forms that seamlessly integrated with WhatsApp for easy communication.

3. 𝑬𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑼𝒔𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚: We carefully selected design elements and features that would not only enhance the visual appeal of the website but also improve its overall usability. This included integrating a WhatsApp chat feature to facilitate direct communication with the client.

4. 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝑬𝑶 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒆𝒔: To improve the website's visibility on search engines, we implemented various search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, ensuring the client's business would be easily found by potential customers.
