تحقیقی جہاز آر وی فلپ دنیا کا واحد جہاز ہے جو سمندر کے وسط میں افقی سے عمودی پوزیشن میں منتقل ہونے کی صلاحیت رکھتا ہے۔

فلپ کوئی چھوٹا جہاز نہیں ہے، یہ تقریباً 108 میٹر لمبا اور 700 ٹن وزنی ہے۔
انجینئرز نے اسے 90 ڈگری سیدھی کے ساتھ عمودی پوزیشن پر جانے کے قابل بنانے کے لیے ڈیزائن کیا، تاکہ اوپر والے جہاز کا اگلا حصہ 17 میٹر اونچا ہو (یعنی 5 منزلہ عمارت اونچی) جب کہ نیچے 91 میٹر لمبا پانی میں ڈوبا ہوا ہو، یعنی زیادہ تر جہاز پانی کے اندر ڈوبا ہوا ہے۔ جو جہاز کے استحکام اور لہروں کے خلاف مزاحمت میں مدد کرتا ہے، تبدیلی کے عمل میں تقریباً 30 منٹ لگتے ہیں، جس میں سمندری پانی کو جہاز کے پچھلے حصے میں موجود بڑے ٹینکوں میں پمپ کیا جاتا ہے، جس کی وجہ سے یہ پانی میں ڈوب کر عمودی حالت میں جہاز بن جاتا ہے، اور اس جہاز کو سائنسی اور بحری تحقیق کے میدان میں اہم ترین بحری جہازوں میں شمار کیا جاتا ہے۔
