Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the undersigned students of Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah, are writing to bring to your kind attention several serious concerns regarding recent administrative decisions that we believe are in clear violation of HEC's academic policies and detrimental to students' academic well-being.
1. Compressed Semester Duration:
A standard semester, as per HEC guidelines, spans approximately 16–18 weeks of instruction. At QUEST, however, our current semester was forcefully compressed and concluded in approximately 2.5 months (10 weeks). This not only undermines the quality of instruction but also puts immense pressure on students and faculty alike.
2. Excessive Weekly Class Hours:
In contradiction to HEC's approved credit hour policy (3 credit hours = 3 contact hours/week), QUEST has implemented 6 hours of classes per week per subject, doubling the standard load. This has led to an unhealthy academic environment and has drastically reduced the effectiveness of learning.
3. Inadequate Summer Break:
While most universities in Pakistan observe a standard 2-month summer break, QUEST has announced only 39 days of summer vacation (from June 5 to July 13, 2025). This insufficient break does not allow students and faculty enough time to rest and reset before the next academic session.
These decisions appear to have been made without student consultation, adequate planning, or regard for HEC’s guidelines. The academic calendar seems to prioritize speed over quality, and compliance over consideration.
We kindly request the Higher Education Commission to:
Investigate these practices at QUEST Nawabshah.
Ensure that university administrations adhere to the standardized semester structure and credit hour policies.
Provide relief and protection for students’ academic health and future.
We place our trust in HEC’s commitment to uphold the integrity and quality of higher education in Pakistan and look forward to a prompt and just response.
Sincerely,
Students of QUEST Nawabshah
