Ayman Udas was a rising female vocalist from Peshawar, Pakistan. Tragically, she was shot at her home in 2009, allegedly by her own brothers.
Her husband stated that she was killed because she broke family traditions. By traditions, they mean she divorced her husband and remarried, this is a taboo considered for a woman in a Pushtun society. And later she chose to sing and became a poet, another factor considered intolerable for her brothers to let her be alive.
She rose to fame with her first song, "Zama da meene na toba da bya ba nakom meena,
Da janaan meena ajeeba da bya ba nakom meena".
Ayman Udas was known for her talent as a poet, lyricist, and ofcourse as a brilliant singer. She had a very unique feminine voice and she chose to sing fearlessly at the times where Pashtun artists fled the country due to terror threats (back in 2008-2009).
This is one of the lines she wrote in her song "Mrha shum ashna khu pa jwando k osam, Janana sta pa waswaso k osam".
Translation - "Although I've died but I still dwell among the living ones, my love, I'm obsessed with your thoughts".
I'm sure the brothers who killed her would be roaming free today. For them, their honor matters more than their sisters. 💔
