*Recovery of IED in Kalat During Sanitization Operation*

On 14 February 2026, Counter Terrorism (CT) elements of 64 Wing successfully recovered a disconnected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during an area sanitization operation in Kuhak, District Kalat.
The suspicious device was located at coordinates 29.395253°N, 66.701982°E, indicating a possible attempt to target security forces or civilians in the area.
Recovered Materials
The IED consisted of:
Two cans containing approximately 40 kg of explosive material
One motorcycle battery
STOS device
20 meters of connecting wire
Following the recovery, the device was handled with extreme caution. The Bomb Disposal (BD) team safely transported the disconnected IED, preventing any potential loss of life or damage.
This timely action reflects the continued vigilance of security forces in maintaining peace and security in Balochistan, particularly in sensitive districts such as Kalat.

Balochistan’s unrest is not solely rooted in poverty or underdevelopment, but in decades of separatist indoctrination that portrays Pakistan as an “occupier,” deepening mistrust and aiding militant recruitment. Despite youth unemployment exceeding 25% in some districts, history shows that around 77% of the province acceded voluntarily, with only Kalat initially resisting. The state has expanded inclusion through over 1,200 schools and vocational programs benefiting more than 30,000 youth, yet economic measures alone cannot defeat perception-driven conflict. Stability demands a holistic strategy combining development, transparent governance, civic engagement, historical education, and strategic communication.
