“I was informed about the full details of the Islamabad Massacre today by my family, how our peaceful protesters were directly shot and dozens of unarmed citizens who spoke up for the constitution and rule of law were martyred while hundreds were injured. Details of 12 martyrs have so far been revealed.
This brutality marks one of the darkest chapters in Pakistan’s history. It’s as if Yahya Khan part two has taken over the country.
I demand that the Supreme Court form an impartial judicial commission to investigate the massacre of unarmed, peaceful civilians and to give the harshest punishment to those who ordered the massacre and those involved in carrying it out.
I am further consulting on this matter and collecting details. We will not leave this matter unaddressed. If anyone thinks that the people will remain silent because of the fear being created, then they are deluded. We will raise our voices against this atrocity on all international forums. I have directed the PTI leadership to file FIRs against those responsible, including Shahbaz Sharif and Mohsin Naqvi. In which country of the world is such direct fire opened on democratic protests?
Data about the martyrs and the injured from hospitals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi should be made public at the earliest, and CCTV footage from all hospitals as well as from Safe City should be preserved so that evidence cannot be erased like it was on May 9 (2023).
I have instructed my party as well as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take responsibility for the care and welfare of the families of those martyred as well as those injured, and to make every effort for the recovery of those who are missing; and to lend encouragement and support the legal teams pursuing the cases of those arrested.
