Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi has died in a helicopter crash at age 63, the government has confirmed. Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also among those killed, along with seven others.
His death comes at a fraught moment in the Middle East, with war raging in Gaza. The helicopter crashed weeks after Iran launched a drone-and-missile attack on Israel in response to a deadly strike on its diplomatic compound in Damascus.
Hardliner Raisi became president in a historically uncompetitive election in 2021. Previously the chief justice, he has overseen a period of intensified repression of dissent in a nation convulsed by youth-led protests against clerical rule.
Raisi was the second-most powerful person in the Islamic Republic's political structure after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Iranian Constitution mandates that, in the case of the death of the president, the first vice president shall assume with the approval of the Supreme Leader.

Pakistan's Army welcomes its locally made anti tank vehicle "MAAZ" by Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT).

The 5.2 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 2.7 meters heighted vehicle is capable of targeting a tank to 500 meters and can travel with the speed of 70 km on smooth surface and 30 km on uneven terains with operational range of 500 KM.

When it comes to technological superiority, the MAAZ leads the pack with numerous advanced systems designed to enhance its battle effectiveness. The vehicle boasts an automated fire control system, improving the precision of aiming and shooting. Additionally, it’s equipped with night vision, allowing seamless operation in low-light conditions. The MAAZ also features a state-of-the-art communication system to foster efficient coordination with other units.

The MAAZ anti-tank vehicle is armed with formidable weaponry. Its primary weapon is the Baktar-Shikan anti-tank guided missile system, a localized Pakistani version of China’s robust HJ-8, or Red Arrow 8 anti-tank missile. Always ready for action, the vehicle houses a total of eight missiles. Simultaneously, it’s equipped with a 12.7mm machine gun, enabling it to engage in close-quarter combat and defend against foot soldiers.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday appointed former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup winner Mushtaq Ahmed as the Tigers’ spin bowling coach ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

“He will join the side ahead of the preparation camp later this month for the T20 series against Zimbabwe and will work with the Bangladesh team until the end of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA,” the BCB said in a press release issued today.

Mushtaq said it was a great honour for him to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach.

“I am looking forward to the role and want to pass my experience to the players because they are very coachable and I always believe that they are one of the most dangerous teams around,” he said.

“They can beat anyone because they have the capability, the resources and the talent,” he said, adding that he would attempt to instil that belief into them and was “very excited” at the opportunity to work with them.
