*Research on Medicinal Plants to be conducted under UO and GU MoU*

Under the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Okara and Ghazi University, the former's Department of Biochemistry while the Department of Chemistry from the latter will conduct joint research to isolate and characterize compounds of medicinal importance from plants.

Moreover, the UO Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Wajid told that any department or discipline could initiate joint venture in research with their counterparts in the GU, thanks to this agreement.

*UO and Ghazi University ink MoU*

The University of Okara and Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic collaboration in all disciplens and joint ventures in various fields of research.

The pact was signed between the UO Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid and the Ghazi University VC, Prof Dr Muhammad Tufail (T.I) at the latter's office.

Under this agreement, the UO's Department of Zoology, in collaboration with its counterpart, will be conducting an expedition on the fossils in the Sulaiman Mountains range. The UO administration will also establish a meuseam showcasing the samples collected from this resarch.

Commenting on other key objectives of the MoU, Prof Wajid told, "The two universities will work together to promote research in key areas in a bid to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Our students will also conduct research on the water reservoirs and indicator animal species of the dessert."

This is third MoU in a row by the newly appointed VC. Earlier, Prof Wajid made pacts of joint research and academic collaboration with Khawaja Farid University of Engineering and Information Technology, Rahim Yar Khan and National Skills University of Islamabad.

ڈینگی کے خاتمے کے حوالے سے ڈینگی آگاہی تنظیم ڈاکٹر محمد واجد صاحب کی سرپرستی میں یونی ورسٹی اف اوکاڑہ میں حالیہ بارشوں کے باعث ڈینگی کی وبا کی روک تھام کے لئے سرگرم. اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر محمد واجد صاحب کے ساتھ ڈاکٹر محمد سجاد سرور صاحب بھی موجود تھے. ڈاکٹر محمد واجد صاحب نے بچوں کو ڈینگی سے بچاؤ اور اس کے خاتمے کے لئے مختلف طریقوں سے متعارف کروایا اور معاشرے میں ڈینگی کے مکمل خاتمے کے لیے سب طالب علموں کو اپنا کردار ادا کرنے کی تلقین کی.

اوکاڑہ یونیورسٹی کے ایپی کلچر ریسرچ سنٹر نے شہد کی مکھیوں کی عمومی صحت کے حوالے سے ایک سروے کیا جس میں مکھیوں میں پائے جانے مختلف بیماریوں کا جائزہ لینے کےلیے سیمپل اکٹھے کیے گئے۔ سروے میں اوکاڑہ یونیورسٹی کے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد واجد، یونیورسٹی آف ویٹرنی اینڈ اینیمل سائنسز راوی کیمپس کے شعبہ وائلڈ لائف اینڈ ایکولوجی کے اسسٹنٹ پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شہزاد اور طلباء نے حصہ لیا۔
سروے کا مقصد شہد کی مکھیوں میں پائے جانی والی بیماریوں کی وجوہات اور علامات کا اندازہ لگانا اور ان کی صحت اور افزائش نسل کی بہتری کےلیے طریقہ کار کا تعین کرنا تھا۔
اس موقع پر طلباء سے بات کرتے ہوئے پروفیسر واجد کا کہنا تھا کہ مون سون کے موسم میں شہد کی مکھیاں مختلف اقسام کے انفیکشن میں مبتلا ہوجاتی ہیں جس سے شہد کی پیداوار متاثر ہوتی ہے۔ ہمارے ایپی کلچر سنٹر میں شہد کی مکھیوں کے بے شمار چھتے موجود ہیں اور ہم اس سروے کے ذریعے ان کو بیماریوں سے متاثر ہونے سے بچانا چاہتے ہیں۔
سروے میں موجود ماہرین نے طلباء کو شہد کی مکھیوں کی حفاظت ، ان کو بیماریوں سے بچانے کے طریقوں، شہد کی پیداوار بڑھانے اور مکھیوں کی جنیٹک امپرومنٹ کے حوالے سے سفارشات بھی دیں۔

*UO conducts survey on honeybee health*

The Apiculture Research Centre of the University of Okara conducted a survey to assess the general health and seasonal diseases of the honeybees by collecting samples for the lab examination. The UO’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, Assistant Professor of Wildlife & Ecology from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Ravi Campus Dr Shehzad and students participated in the survey.
The purpose of the survey was to gauge the causes and symptoms of various diseases that infect honeybees and find out ways to enhance their health and breeding potential.
Speaking to the students at this eve, Prof Wajid told, “The monsoon season is a high time of infections in honeybees and it badly affects the honey production in hives. Our Apiculture Research Centre is managing a number of hives and we want to protect them from getting infected.”
The experts in the survey shared recommendations with the researchers for the care and cure of the honeybees, augmentation in the honey production and genetic improvement of the insects.
