Congressman Randy Fine has sparked a fierce political backlash after calling for Zohran Mamdani’s arrest while using inflammatory language to describe him. The statement immediately raises serious questions: Arrest him for what alleged crime? What evidence has been presented? And should an elected official be using religiously charged labels against a political opponent?

In a democratic society, no politician should be imprisoned simply because others dislike their beliefs, identity, policies, or political message. Arrest requires credible evidence, a specific violation of the law, due process, and an independent legal judgment—not a provocative slogan designed to generate outrage.

Fine’s statement may energize some supporters, but critics will likely view it as dangerous rhetoric that attempts to criminalize political disagreement while fueling hostility toward Muslim Americans. Political leaders have every right to challenge Mamdani’s ideas, record, and proposals. However, replacing debate with accusations and demands for imprisonment sets a disturbing precedent.

If there is evidence of wrongdoing, present it publicly. Otherwise, this is political intimidation, not justice.
