Viscosity is the resistance to the flow of a liquid. It is caused by the internal friction between layers of the liquid as they slide past one another.

In simple words:
It tells us how thick or thin a liquid is, or how easily it flows.

Key Points:

1. High Viscosity = Slow Flow

Example: Honey, glycerin

Thick liquids flow slowly.

2. Low Viscosity = Fast Flow

Example: Water, alcohol

Thin liquids flow quickly.

3. Cause of Viscosity:

Intermolecular forces: Stronger forces → higher viscosity.

Molecular size and shape: Larger and more complex molecules → higher viscosity.

4. Effect of Temperature:

As temperature increases, viscosity decreases (liquids flow more easily when heated).

In lubricants, high viscosity is needed to reduce friction.

In blood flow, viscosity is important for proper circulation.

Used in industries to control flow in pipelines and machinery.
