* Local Name: “Rakaposhi” means “Snow Covered” or “Shining Wall” in the local language.

Why is Rakaposhi Special?

* It is one of the few mountains in the world that rises dramatically from around 2,000 meters (6,600 ft) to 7,788 meters over a relatively short horizontal distance, making it visually spectacular.
* It is clearly visible from the Karakoram Highway, making it one of the easiest 7,000+ meter peaks to admire without trekking.
* Its pyramid-like shape and massive glaciers make it a favorite for photographers and travelers.

First Successful Ascent

The mountain was first successfully climbed in 1958 by British climbers Mike Banks and Tom Patey via the southwest ridge.

* July – September: Best weather for trekking and sightseeing.
