If you’re someone who uses an iPhone, you’ll want to pay attention to a new software update Apple just released today. Why? It adds an important new security feature to your iPhone.

The update in question is iOS 17.3, and the hallmark feature it adds is a new tool called “Stolen Device Protection.” Announced in December, Stolen Device Protection makes it harder for thieves to access your iPhone if it’s lost or stolen. As Apple describes it, “this new feature adds an additional layer of security in the unlikely case that someone has stolen your phone and also obtained your passcode.”

Using Stolen Device Protection is pretty simple. Once you have iOS 17.3 on your iPhone, open the Settings app and select Face ID & Passcode. After confirming your identity, scroll down to the section titled Stolen Device Protection and select Turn On Protection. That’s it!

Once enabled, you’ll get a lot more peace of mind in the event of a misplaced iPhone. If your iPhone detects that it’s in an unusual location, it’ll require Face ID (or Touch ID) authentication if someone is trying to access your saved passwords. Furthermore, any attempts to change “sensitive settings” (such as your Apple ID password) are hit with a security delay.

While Stolen Device Protection is the biggest new feature in iOS 17.3, there are some smaller additions, too. The update also adds playlist collaboration tools in Apple Music, AirPlay support for certain hotel TVs, optimizations to Crash detection, and more.

To check for the iOS 17.3 update on your iPhone right now, open the Settings app, select General, and then select Software Update. Upon doing so, iOS 17.3 should appear automatically and be available to download.

With the new Quick Share icon on your device, you'll see a list of all available devices nearby where you can share photos, videos and files. If you're worried about privacy issues, you will be able to configure who can discover your device and send you files: choose between everyone, only your contacts or just your own devices.⁠

During the first half of the fiscal year, Pakistan’s economic landscape underwent significant shifts, particularly in the realm of exports. The textile sector faced a formidable challenge, experiencing a nearly 5 percent decline amounting to a substantial reduction of $430 million. This downturn painted a challenging picture for a key industry in Pakistan, highlighting potential vulnerabilities.

Contrastingly, the rice export sector emerged as a bright spot, witnessing a remarkable increase of $710 million or 76.5 percent, reaching $1.638 billion. This surge was particularly evident in December 2023, with rice exports skyrocketing by 190.5 percent to $518.64 million. Basmati rice exports, a significant component of this growth, increased by 54.7 percent to $80.8 million in December. The ban on rice exports by India played a pivotal role in this surge, creating a favorable environment for Pakistan to capitalize on increased demand and bolster its foreign exchange earnings.

Despite the positive trajectory in exports, the local market faced challenges as staple prices soared by over 100 percent. This inflationary pressure significantly impacted the budgets of millions of Pakistanis, posing economic hardships on the domestic front. Japan has made history by landing its spacecraft, called the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), on the moon’s surface. This achievement makes Japan the fifth country ever to do so. The landing happened early on a Saturday, as reported by mission officials.

Although mission control initially shared news of the landing, there’s still some uncertainty about whether it can be called a complete success. More analysis is required to confirm if the spacecraft landed exactly as planned. Additionally, there are concerns about the power supply, especially the solar power panels.

Hitoshi Kuninaka, who leads the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, mentioned that they believe rovers were sent out, and data transmission to Earth is ongoing. However, the lander might be facing challenges with its solar power panels, currently relying on batteries.

Even with these uncertainties, Kuninaka is optimistic, stating that the mission has achieved, at the very least, a “minimum” level of success. This successful mission puts Japan in a special group of countries, including the United States, the Soviet Union, China, and India, that have managed to reach and explore the moon.
