بچوں کو اپنے دن کی منصوبہ بندی کرنے دینا انہیں ذمہ داری سکھاتا ہے

✏️ My 10-year-old created his own daily timetable and turned it into a poster, deciding how he wants to spend his winter days—

🎨 poster making
📖 reading time
🎲 play & board games
📱 screen time (with limits!)
🍽 lunch time
🚴 cycling

This activity helped him:
✅ set his own goals
✅ plan his day independently
✅ express creativity
✅ understand time management

I’ve turned this beautiful learning moment into a short video to capture how goal setting can be taught in a fun, child-friendly way instead of pressure 📹✨

Small steps today, strong life skills for tomorrow 🌱

𝐓𝐡𝐞 "𝐄𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠" 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭

Kids believe what they overhear more than what they are told directly. Use this to your advantage today.

What:

Let your child "catch" you talking positively about them to someone else (Grandma, Dad, a friend). "Sarah was so brave at the park today," or "I was so proud of how Sarah handled his homework."

Why:

Indirect praise feels more authentic to children and cements a positive self-image internally.

Make sure they are within earshot, but pretend you don't know they are there!😄😉

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟐-𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐞

Sometimes the body has to lead the mind. Before they head out for a sport, a test, or a playdate, try this science-backed trick.

What:

Have them stand like a superhero (hands on hips, chest out, chin up) for two minutes.

Why:

Studies show that "power posing" can lower cortisol (stress) and raise testosterone (confidence) levels. It’s a physical reset button for anxiety.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 "𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩" 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞

Kids feel confident when they feel useful. Avoid "fake" chores to keep them busy. Give them a job that actually matters to the household running smoothly.

What:

Assign a task with visible results. Let them scramble the eggs for breakfast, use the real screwdriver to tighten a loose handle, or sort the recycling.

Why:

Competence breeds confidence. When they see, "I did that, and it helped," they feel capable and significant.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞!

Let’s normalize messing up. Tonight at dinner, instead of just asking "What went well?", ask "What did you fail at today?"

Go first. Share a mistake you made today (e.g., "I burned the toast" or "I forgot to send an email"). Laugh about it.

It removes the fear of failure. When kids see that making mistakes doesn't ruin the day, they become braver in trying new things.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 "𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐞" 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞

Primary kids love being the expert. Flip the script today. Ask them to teach you something they know well—whether it’s a Minecraft trick, a TikTok dance, or how they solved a math problem.

Play the student. Ask questions like, "Wait, how did you do that?" or "Can you show me again?"

Being in the position of authority reinforces that they are capable and knowledgeable. It breaks the dynamic of always being the one who "doesn't know."

𝐓𝐡𝐞 "𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟" 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞

Confidence is a muscle, and we need to exercise it in low-stakes environments. Today, if you go to the bakery, a cafe, or even the library, make your child be the spokesperson.

Do not speak for them. Let them ask for the ketchup, order the vanilla cone, or check out the book.

It proves to them that their voice has power and they can navigate the world without you acting as a buffer.

Stand back and smile encouragingly, but keep your lips sealed!

𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐲 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

simple tool to shift child's mindset from "I can't" to "I'll try."

𝐓𝐡𝐞 "𝐘𝐞𝐭" 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝

Start the week by changing one small word. Whenever your child says, "I can't do this math problem" or "I'm not good at reading," simply add the word "YET" to the end of their sentence.

Try this,👇

"I can't do this... yet."

It instantly shifts the narrative from a permanent failure to a temporary situation that can change with effort.

Catch them using "I can't" once today and correct it gently.

✨ 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 - 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲! ✨

You've made it to the final day! Our biggest goal isn't just to read the words, but to understand what they mean.

Your 6-year-old might read a whole page perfectly, but when you ask "What happened?" they shrug. This is a common hurdle, especially for non-native English learners!

Issue:

Your child reads accurately but struggles to retell the story or answer questions about it.

💡 Strategy:

The Bilingual Story Retell! This is perhaps the most crucial strategy for NNELs.

1. First, let them retell the story in their native language! This proves they grasped the plot without the added pressure of finding the right English words. Celebrate this!

2. Then, in English, ask simple, open-ended questions focusing on key vocabulary and main ideas: "Who was in the story?" "What did the character do?" "What made the character happy/sad?"

🏡 Activity:

After reading any story together:

1. Ask: "Can you tell me in [Native Language] what happened in the book?"

2. Then, with the book open, point to pictures and ask simple English questions: "Who is this?" "What is the bear doing?" (Reinforce key vocabulary).

You Did It! 🎉 Congratulations on completing our 7-week Reading Challenge! Remember, the true magic of reading is in the understanding.

Keep building that beautiful bridge between English and your home language!
