Images doing the rounds on social media confirm that Azerbaijan has started receiving the first batch of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets from Pakistan.

Photographs show three aircraft on the ground, including one twin-seat LIFT JF-17 Block III trainer variant.

The delivery follows a government-to-government sale Pakistan and Azerbaijan agreed in late 2023 to early 2024.

Under that contract, the first priority shipment comprises eight JF-17 Block III aircraft: six single-seat JF-17C fighters and two two-seat JF-17D LIFT variants.

During the initial delivery phase, Baku is likely to confirm an additional four aircraft from the agreed package. That would bring Azerbaijan’s JF-17 Block III fleet to at least 12 jets, with a further option to expand to a 16-aircraft squadron.

The JF-17 Block III package includes advanced air-to-air and air-to-ground weaponry and associated combat systems supplied alongside the aircraft. Pakistan has positioned the Block III as an upgraded variant with modern avionics, sensors, and weapons integration.

For Azerbaijan, the JF-17 acquisition strengthens its tactical fighter force. Meanwhile, the deliveries mark a deepening defence trade relationship between Islamabad and Baku.

🇵🇰🇵🇱 A recent study by Poland-based Pakistani Neuroscientist Dr. Ali Jawaid, MD, PhD has identified differential miRNAs and fatty acids in the milk of mothers exposed to high levels of trauma during their childhood. Notably, the milk miRNAs and fatty acids showed clear correlations with social and adaptive behaviors of their newborns already at 5 months of age. The study represents unprecedented potential of milk miRNAs as biomarkers and mediators of intergenerational transmission of trauma effects in humans.

1. The study shows that specific epigenetic factors and fatty acids are expressed differently in milk of mothers with high levels of childhood trauma.
2. There is a correlation between the severity of trauma in women and the expression of these epigenetic factors in their milk.
3. Some behavioral traits in their exclusively breast-fed newborns also show correlation with the epigenetic factors in milk.
4. Whether these children will develop any psychiatric disease is NOT known at this point. And the epigenetic factors in the milk might as well be resilience factors, which still needs to be investigated.
5. However, it is important to not that the study does not discourage breast feeding in women with adverse experiences NOR does it support formula milk. At this point, the study only recommends the possibility of using milk as non-invasive biomarker of trauma-related neuropsychiatric effects in humans- which can be used for early screening and intervention in at-risk populations.

The study got published in Translational Psychiatry, a Nature journal with an impact factor > 7. Dr. Ali Jawaid’s PhD student Weronika Tomaszewska is the first author of the study.

Dr. Ali Jawaid is an alumnus of Aga Khan University and the head of TREND Lab at the PORT Polish Center for Technology Development, Wroclaw, Poland. He is also a scholar of FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence, a network of 30 leading Neuroscientists in Europe.r

🇵🇰🚀 BREAKING: Pakistan is preparing to launch an advanced hyperspectral satellite in October, which will assist in exploring underground mineral resources and enhance research in agriculture, forestry, wildlife, flood monitoring, glacier melt, air pollution, and smog.

🛰️ Hyperspectral satellite imaging is a groundbreaking advancement in remote sensing technology. It enables the capture of vast amounts of detailed data across hundreds of narrow, contiguous spectral bands. Unlike traditional optical sensors, hyperspectral imaging reveals information beyond what is visible to the human eye, offering insights into the physical and chemical composition of Earth’s surface that are unattainable with standard multispectral sensors.

A case of mpox, formerly called monkeypox, has surfaced in Lahore as a patient tested positive for the virus at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH).

A 48 year old male was brought to the hospital on Sept 16 with strong symptoms of mpox. He was immediately isolated. The samples sent to the provincial public health reference lab confirmed the virus in the patient. he had undergone liver transplant surgery in 2021 and he might have carried infection due to the low immunity in the wake of his operation.

The health teams had activated the public health experts to visit his residence and the surroundings to further expand the scope of the case investigations.

💉 Pakistan’s first national cervical cancer prevention drive begins tomorrow (Monday), running from September 15–27 in Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir. Around 13 million girls aged 9–14 will receive a single HPV vaccine dose at schools, madrassas, community centers, fixed sites, and through mobile teams.

🇵🇰 Punjab received 8.8M doses, Sindh 4M, Azad Kashmir 349K, and Islamabad 152K. Vaccines and syringes worth Rs 10 billion were provided free by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

🗒️ The campaign will expand in phases: KP in 2026, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan in 2027. Pakistan plans to integrate HPV vaccination into routine immunization for all girls up to age nine, with future procurement by the government.

🔬 Researchers from Information Technology University (ITU), Lahore, in collaboration with Chughtai Labs and COMSATS University, have developed LeukemiaAttri, a large-scale, multi-domain dataset designed to advance AI-driven early diagnosis of leukemia.

📑 This significant contribution, published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS, 2024), focuses on white blood cell detection using morphological attributes that enhance the explainability of AI models—an essential feature for building trust in medical applications.

💻 What sets LeukemiaAttri apart is its versatility. The dataset was captured using a diverse range of equipment—from high-end laboratory microscopes to low-cost alternatives and even mobile phone cameras—making it generalisable to real-world, resource-constrained healthcare settings. This democratized approach to data collection ensures that the resulting diagnostic tools can benefit both well-equipped urban hospitals and under-resourced rural clinics.

👨‍⚕️ The study was co-authored by Dr. Abdul Rehman and Dr. Tayyaba Meraj from COMSATS University, Dr. Ali M. Minhas and Dr. Waqas Sultani from the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at ITU, and Dr. Muhammad Ali from Chughtai Labs. Their joint effort bridges artificial intelligence with healthcare to create practical, interpretable, and accessible diagnostic solutions, exemplifying how interdisciplinary collaboration can address pressing medical challenges.
